Underrated Parks in Chicago

Chicago
2024/9/24 Edited to

... Read moreOh, Chicago! It's not just about Millennium Park or Lincoln Park Zoo, though those are amazing. I recently stumbled upon some truly underrated gems that offer a different kind of peace and beauty, perfect for when you need a quiet escape or a picturesque picnic spot. If you're planning a trip in June or just looking for new recommendations, these two parks truly shine! First up, let's talk more about Milton Lee Olive Park. This place is a dream if you're searching for a lakefront park near me with truly stunning views. Located right next to Navy Pier (you can even spot the address 400 N McClurg Court nearby), it feels surprisingly secluded, making it one of my favorite secret parks in Chicago. What truly sets it apart are the breathtaking skyline views – seriously, the OCR was spot on about the best skyline views! You get this expansive panorama of the city's iconic architecture set against the vastness of Lake Michigan. It’s perfect for a long, reflective stroll, or even better, pack a blanket and some snacks for one of the best picnic spots Chicago has to offer. The park’s design is minimalist and elegant, with those famous fountains adding a refreshing touch, especially on a sunny day. I love going there early in the morning for a serene sunrise or in the late afternoon to catch the golden hour light. It’s a beautiful green space that feels like a well-kept secret, even though it's so accessible. Then there's Ping Tom Memorial Park, nestled away in Chinatown. This isn't just any park; it's a cultural experience! The pagoda-style pavilion, as highlighted in the OCR, is absolutely gorgeous and transports you to another world. It’s a fantastic example of Chicago's diverse green spaces. I find it to be incredibly peaceful, with its lush bamboo groves, traditional Chinese gardens, and serene river views. It feels like a genuine secluded park in Chicago, a quiet oasis away from the urban bustle. After exploring the park, you can easily wander into Chinatown for some delicious food, making it a perfect half-day adventure. You can even catch a water taxi from here to downtown, which is such a unique way to see the city! These parks prove that Chicago has so much more to offer beyond the well-trodden paths. If you're looking for beautiful parks near me that offer both tranquility and incredible photo opportunities, Milton Lee Olive Park and Ping Tom Memorial Park are absolute must-visits. They truly embody what it means to find hidden gems in a bustling city. So next time you're in Chicago, skip the crowds and discover these underrated treasures!
