... Read moreTrying pottery for the first time is truly a unique experience. I found that working with clay requires a lot of patience and practice. At Washington Street Studios Pottery School, which I discovered during my journey, they offer beginner classes that provide hands-on guidance, making the process easier to grasp. One thing I learned is that creating something like a travel mug is both fun and challenging. The shaping and molding of clay on the wheel taught me about the finesse needed for each piece. Although I enjoyed the creative aspect, I realized pottery demands skills that come with time, and it’s completely normal to feel frustrated at first. An interesting tip I picked up was to focus on simple projects initially to build confidence. For those hesitant to try pottery, attending local pottery schools or workshops can offer a great introduction. The community and instructor support at places like Washington Street Pottery greatly enhance the experience. Despite deciding to return to sewing for now, I’m glad I gave pottery a shot. It opened my eyes to a new art form and gave me a better appreciation for handmade crafts. If you’re curious about pottery, I encourage you to take a class, experiment with clay, and embrace the learning curve. You might find it as rewarding as I did — even if you decide to stick to your first craft.
