Train Travel With Kids: What Actually Helped

We officially made it onto the train with all kids in tow — which already feels like a win worth celebrating.

If you’re traveling by train with kids, here are three things that truly helped:

• A good audiobook (to keep parents sane)

• Simple, non-WiFi games like iSpy or quick math challenges (to keep kiddos engaged/Plus there was no WiFi and spotty service)

• Snacks. Lots of snacks. Snacks solve more problems than we admit.

The key is keeping everyone occupied, fed, and mildly entertained long enough to reach your destination without chaos. Everything else is just a bonus.

On to the next adventure 🚆✨

... Read moreTraveling on a train with kids can be a rewarding yet challenging experience, but with the right preparation, it can turn into a memorable adventure for the whole family. One crucial tip is to bring along a variety of non-digital entertainment options since train WiFi can often be unreliable or unavailable. Classic games like iSpy, simple math challenges, or even storytelling can keep children actively engaged without the need for internet connectivity. Audiobooks serve as an excellent tool—not only do they entertain the kids, but they also help parents stay sane by creating a calm atmosphere during the journey. Choosing age-appropriate, captivating stories can make the hours fly by for young passengers. An abundant supply of snacks is another travel essential. Having a variety of healthy and favorite treats readily available can prevent hunger tantrums and keep energy levels stable. It’s wise to pack food that’s easy to eat on the go and doesn’t create messiness. In addition to these strategies, involving children in the travel experience itself can be very engaging. Encouraging them to observe the scenery, spot landmarks, or learn interesting facts about stops along the route makes the trip interactive and educational. Lastly, planning for comfort—dressing in layers for changing temperatures and bringing small travel pillows or blankets—can help kids relax and potentially nap, making the journey smoother for everyone involved. By combining these tips, train travel with kids transforms from a stressful ordeal into an enjoyable family adventure full of learning, fun, and togetherness.
