Sun dry herbs thyme and rosemary

I love to sun dry my herbs when I can other than that I blend and store quicker and easier.

Sun dry took 2 weeks ( for fall to winter months ) - once I can crush it with my fingers I jar them off.

1 week spring and summer months- full access to the sun dry them faster.

These cute glass jars came from dollar general $1.00.

How to :

basket 🧺 or tray to spread the herbs out flat with a Tea or flour towel ( I prefer paper towel for thyme because the fallen leaves I can filler them into the jar easier without a funnel)

I do mix my own dry herbs / spices sometimes that way I’d be using less container when I am cooking 🥘 and each jar is specifically for a dish.

I’ve been doing this since I was a kid mixing spices herbs making my own blend of seasonings is something I am good at.

I do reuse a few of the stem to regrow - in a jar of water by my sunny kitchen window sill. I use candle jars for this.

... Read moreSun drying herbs is a traditional and effective method to preserve the essential flavors and aroma of plants like thyme and rosemary. For optimal results, choose a warm, sunny location with minimal humidity, allowing your herbs to retain their vibrant taste. Ensure your herbs are clean and dry before laying them out on a basket or tray. A paper towel can make the process easier by preventing loss of fragile leaves, particularly for thyme. If you're looking for flavor innovation, consider blending different dried herbs to create unique seasoning mixes that complement various dishes. Not only will this reduce the number of containers in your kitchen, but you'll also enhance your meals with tailored flavors. For the best results, monitor the drying process; herbs can typically take from one week in summer to two weeks during the colder months. Once dried, the leaves should crumble easily, allowing for convenient jar storage. You can also reuse herb stems by placing them in water near a sunny window, encouraging regrowth—an eco-friendly practice to maximize your herbs. Popular recipes often incorporate these dried herbs, from savory roasted meats to aromatic pasta dishes, making them a versatile addition to your culinary repertoire. With proper care and attention, home-dried herbs can elevate your cooking and provide a satisfying sense of achievement.
