Carnival’s Late Night Buffet
Well, everyone today is worried about the new Carnival rewards program and loyalty program, I'm over here still worried about the fact that pizza del Capitano is no longer open until 2 AM!! What do you think? Do you like this midnight buffet? Do you think it's better than that pizza in the middle of the night? Let me know in the comments. @carnival #midnightbuffet #cruisefood #carnivalpizza #carnivalfood #cruisefoodie
Oh, how I echo the sentiment about Carnival's late-night offerings! It feels like a genuine heartbreak for many of us seasoned cruisers when we talk about the legendary Pizza del Capitano. There was nothing quite like stumbling out of the club, ready for some proper 'grub in the middle of the night,' and knowing that a fresh, hot slice of pizza was just a short walk away. It truly was the perfect end to a fun evening. The news that it now closes at midnight, rather than 2 AM, was a real blow, making us 'stuck with this monstrosity' of a midnight buffet. I've had my share of late-night buffet experiences on Carnival, and I have to agree, the pizza on offer there is often 'awful.' It’s a far cry from the deliciousness we associated with Pizza del Capitano. You usually find a mix of leftover dinner items, some cold cuts, maybe a sad-looking sandwich station, and often, some rather unappetizing dessert options. While it technically serves a purpose for those ravenously hungry, it seldom satisfies the craving for something truly good after a long day of cruising and dancing. It definitely doesn’t hit the spot like a freshly made pepperoni did. So, what are our options now when that late-night hunger strikes, and Pizza del Capitano is a distant memory? I've learned a few tricks to navigate the 'awful' late-night landscape. Firstly, check the Carnival Hub App religiously! Sometimes, on certain ships or itineraries, other venues might have extended hours or special late-night menus. I’ve occasionally found a deli counter with some decent sandwiches open a bit later, or even a burger joint that stays open past the usual dinner rush. Another strategy I've adopted is to plan ahead. If I know I'll be out late, I might grab a snack from the Lido Deck earlier in the evening, or even bring some non-perishable snacks like granola bars or chips from home. Room service is also an option, though it’s important to remember that many items incur a charge, especially later in the evening. It's not quite the same as a free, quick pizza run, but it can be a lifesaver if you absolutely need something specific delivered to your stateroom. It’s a shame because Carnival truly excels in so many other food options. But for that specific, late-night craving, the gap left by the earlier closing of Pizza del Capitano, and the often disappointing 'late night buffet,' is deeply felt. Many of us are still hoping Carnival will 'please consider bringing it back for all of us'! Until then, managing expectations and knowing your alternatives is key to avoiding that post-midnight hunger disappointment on your next cruise.
