Tretinoin .1% NIGHT SKINCARE

I’ve been approved to up the potency on my tretinoin!

I used .05% for a couple of months before I progressed to .1% to work harder at these stubborn dark marks 😡

PM SKIN CARE ROUTINE

1) hydrating cleanser or exfoliating cleanser

2) aloe Vera gel (hydrating buffer before tretinoin)

3) the MVP: Tretinoin .1% (in the beginning I alternate between .05 and .1 to give my skin time to adjust while still receiving the benefits)

4) moisturizer (Ulta facial cream by kiehls is still

My fav )

... Read moreStepping up your Tretinoin potency, especially to 0.1%, is a significant milestone in your skincare journey, much like my own progression from 0.05%. It means your skin is ready for more powerful action against those stubborn concerns like dark marks, acne, and fine lines. But with great power comes great responsibility – and some important considerations for your night routine! Deep Dive into Your Tretinoin 0.1% Night Routine: The Art of Buffering (Why Aloe Vera is a Game Changer): You mentioned using aloe vera gel as a hydrating buffer, which is a brilliant strategy, especially when moving to a higher potency like 0.1%. When you apply Tretinoin to bare, dry skin, it can penetrate more aggressively, leading to increased irritation, redness, and peeling. Buffering by applying a hydrating layer (like aloe vera, hyaluronic acid serum, or a light moisturizer) before your Tretinoin creates a protective barrier. This allows for a gentler, slower absorption, reducing potential side effects while still letting the Tretinoin work its magic. It's all about making the progression to a higher potency smoother and more comfortable for your skin. Gradual Introduction and Listening to Your Skin: Even if you've been using 0.05% for a while, jumping straight to nightly application of 0.1% might be too much. Your original approach of alternating between 0.05% and 0.1% is smart! A common recommendation is to start using the 0.1% cream just 2-3 nights a week, then gradually increase frequency as your skin adapts. Pay close attention to how your skin responds. If you experience excessive dryness, peeling, or irritation, take a break for a night or two, or revert to less frequent application. Consistency over time is key, not how quickly you can apply it every night. Choosing Your Cleanser & Moisturizer Wisely: With 0.1% Tretinoin, your supporting products become even more crucial. Opt for a gentle, hydrating cleanser that doesn't strip your skin's natural oils. Avoid harsh exfoliants or cleansers with active ingredients on Tretinoin nights. As for moisturizer, a rich, reparative cream like the Kiehl's Ulta Facial Cream you love is ideal. Look for ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin that help repair your skin barrier and lock in moisture. Applying a generous layer after Tretinoin helps soothe and protect your skin throughout the night. Beyond Application: Essential Tretinoin 0.1% Tips for Success: Consistency is Key, Patience is a Virtue: Tackling stubborn dark marks with Tretinoin 0.1% takes time. Don't get discouraged if you don't see immediate results. Most users start noticing significant improvements after 3-6 months of consistent use. Keep going! Sun Protection is Non-Negotiable: Tretinoin makes your skin much more sensitive to the sun. Even though you apply it at night, wearing a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every single morning, rain or shine, is absolutely critical. This protects your skin from further hyperpigmentation and helps prevent irritation. Avoid Competing Actives: On nights you use Tretinoin 0.1%, it's usually best to avoid other strong actives like AHA/BHA exfoliants, Vitamin C serums, or benzoyl peroxide. These can increase irritation and compromise your skin barrier. Consider using them on alternate mornings or nights if your skin can tolerate it. The Tretinoin Purge: Some users experience a temporary worsening of acne or skin texture (the “purge”) when starting or increasing Tretinoin. It's a sign the product is working to bring impurities to the surface. This phase typically lasts a few weeks and is usually followed by clearer, smoother skin. Hang in there! Your journey with 0.1% Tretinoin is exciting! By understanding these additional nuances and continuing to be mindful of your skin's needs, you're setting yourself up for incredible results. Keep sharing your progress!
