Twice - This Is For - Album Review

Okay ONCEs, let's talk about TWICE's 'This Is For' album! As a huge fan, I was so excited for this release, and I dove deep into every track to give you my honest thoughts. You saw my overall album score was 64%, which might seem a bit harsh to some, but trust me, I'm just keeping it real! Let's kick things off with the standouts. 'Heartbreak Avenue' absolutely blew me away, earning a solid 9/10. The emotion in the vocals, the production – it just hit different. It quickly became one of my personal favorites from the entire album. 'Options' also grabbed my attention with its catchy melody and vibrant energy, easily an 8/10 for me. These two tracks really set a high bar right from the start. Now, for the title track itself, 'This Is For,' I gave it a 7/10. It’s undeniably TWICE, with their signature bright sound, but for me, it didn't quite reach the iconic status of some of their previous title tracks. It’s still a great listen, and I appreciate its message, but I found myself gravitating more towards other B-sides. 'Mars,' 'Hi Hello,' and 'Seesaw' also scored a 7/10 – solid, enjoyable tracks that showcase the group's versatility, but perhaps not groundbreaking. The unit songs on this album are always a highlight! 'Battitude,' featuring Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, and Mina, was a strong 7/10. I loved hearing Jeongyeon's unique vocal color blend with the others on this one; her voice always adds such a lovely texture. And then we have 'Dat Ahh Dat Ooh' with Sana, Jihyo, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. Another 7/10! Jihyo, our main vocalist, truly shined here, showcasing her powerful range. Tzuyu also had some memorable moments, really owning her lines. It’s great to see how they mix and match members to create different vibes. 'Let Love Go' (Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Tzuyu) and 'Talk' (Nayeon, Jihyo) also landed at 7/10 for me. 'Talk' was particularly sweet, highlighting Nayeon and Jihyo's lovely harmonies. Now, for some of the tracks that didn't quite resonate as much. 'Right Hand Girl' came in at 6/10. It’s not bad, but it felt a little less impactful compared to the stronger tracks. Moving down, 'G.O.A.T' (Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung) received a 5/10. For me, it just didn't quite click. And then there’s 'Four,' which honestly was a 4/10. I know some ONCEs might love it, but personally, it felt a bit disjointed, and the melody just didn’t stick with me. Finally, 'Peach Gelato' at 3/10 was the biggest miss for me on this album. The concept felt a bit underdeveloped, and it didn't leave a lasting impression. Overall, 'This Is For' is an album with some incredible highs and a few tracks that didn't fully capture my attention. The 64% score reflects that it's a good album with some amazing songs, but not every single track hit it out of the park for me. It's still TWICE, and their talent shines through, especially in the unit performances and those top-tier B-sides like 'Heartbreak Avenue.' Every album is a journey, and this one definitely has its memorable moments!
