Learning to love myself again

i thought healing would feel like a spa day.

turns out, it felt like silence, grief, and rewriting the way i spoke to myself.

i had to unlearn:

• confusing distance with mystery

• begging for attention with being “ride or die”

• waiting on texts like my worth depended on it

what helped me:

• journaling what i actually needed in love

• deleting the thread, not just the number

• mirror work with affirmations (even when i felt stupid)

• listening to music that reminded me of me, not him

this version of me is softer. not for him — for me.

save this if you’re in your ‘coming back home to me’ era.

The experience described reflects the reality that healing isn’t always comforting or easy, but often involves silence, grief, and changing negative self-talk. When recovering from emotional wounds, it’s essential to "unlearn" harmful behaviors such as confusing emotional distance for mystery, seeking constant external validation, or waiting for messages as a measure of self-worth. Journaling what you truly need in love helps clarify your emotional needs and boundaries, promoting self-awareness. Additionally, taking practical steps like deleting old message threads—not just numbers—can help break unhealthy attachments and support mental clarity. Mirror work with affirmations fosters positive self-acceptance, even when it feels awkward or unfamiliar. Listening to music that reconnects you with your authentic self helps reinforce your emotional identity away from past relationships. The phrase "how I started loving myself again after being emotionally neglected" echoes a common experience among those who have endured emotional neglect or abuse. Self-love after such hurt is a "coming back home to me" era, in which the focus shifts inward to nurture a softer, kinder version of ourselves—not for others, but for our own well-being. Embracing hashtags like #healingera, #emotionalwellbeing, and #selfworthjourney highlights the supportive communities that can encourage individuals on this path. Ultimately, emotional healing is about rebuilding a foundation of self-trust, respect, and love, learning to recognize your worth independently of others, and finding joy in your own company. This journey enhances emotional resilience and contributes to overall mental health, enabling a softer, stronger life outlook.
