When I'm sketching out these scenes, like the distressed individuals facing down a zombie-like figure, or the early discussions about Lanna going on TV amidst the chaos, I'm always asking: 'What kind of characters would really shine, or even surprisingly stumble, through a global virus crisis?' One of the most exciting parts of creating a comic like this is imagining the diverse cast of survivors. Beyond the typical heroes, I find myself drawn to exploring those unexpected figures who might find themselves caught in the middle of a spreading virus with a highly contagious 'blood pathogen' – the kind that brings on a 'rabies-like effect.' What if, for instance, a character who seems utterly out of place, perhaps a 'foolish samurai' type, was suddenly thrust into this new, brutal reality? How would their unique code or seemingly impractical skills translate to fighting off the infected? Would their rigid ways make them a liability, or could their unconventional approach be the very thing that turns the tide when society crumbles? I love the idea of characters who, despite initial appearances, possess hidden depths or a surprising resilience. Maybe someone who was once seen as 'foolish' finds their true purpose when faced with overwhelming odds. It adds such a rich layer to the narrative, moving beyond just pure survival to explore personal growth and transformation. Think about the tension on that multi-panel comic page, where characters are grappling with the sheer scale of this global threat. Every decision, every interaction, becomes magnified.
