Between Two Kings- my honest opinion (Spoiler’s)
I’m going to start off with saying I am obsessed with the first book. Loved the mythology of it all combined with the story line, and let’s not forget about the smut 🫠. At the beginning, and the middle I’ll admit I was a little frustrated, mainly because I love Leo and I wanted to shake Tem into helping him. Then I realized, Tem was always trying to do what was right, for everyone. She wanted him to experience the love he thought he had wholeheartedly again, without her completely. The ending tied it all together for me. Her experiences in the caves, always having that lingering feeling of displacement and although she thrived somewhat in her own way, feeling conflicted with her human side. Caspen’s decision on how he handled things in the end was a beautiful and completely devoted act represented of his undying love for Tem. Although this book wasn’t what I expected at first, I’m glad it wasn’t, because it was beautiful. I was crying at the end 😭❤️.
Okay, so after gushing about my emotional rollercoaster with 'Between Two Kings,' I know many of you have specific questions, especially regarding what kind of romance this is and its spicy meter! Let's dive into some of those details that might help you decide if this is your next read. First off, the big question: 'Is Between Two Kings a why choose romance?' While I can't spill all the beans and ruin the incredible journey for you, I can say that the dynamic between Tem and the two kings is intensely complex and central to the plot. It's not a simple love triangle; it delves deep into questions of loyalty, destiny, and the kind of love that transcends boundaries. Lindsay Straube has crafted a narrative where Tem's choices and connections are fraught with emotional challenges, making you constantly question what 'choosing' truly means. It's a nuanced exploration of multiple profound bonds, which I found incredibly compelling. And for those wondering about the 'spicy chapters' – yes, absolutely! The book certainly delivers on the heat. The intimate scenes are passionate and well-integrated, serving to deepen the emotional connection and character development rather than just being there for shock value. They’re woven into the mythology and the intense plot, making the romance feel authentic and deeply felt. If you appreciate fantasy romance that doesn't shy away from explicit passion alongside a rich story, you're in for a treat. Now, about the book itself and its author, Lindsay Straube. Many people ask about the 'Between Two Kings series in order.' This book is actually the second in 'The Shadow Bound Queen' series. To get the full experience and understand the intricate world-building and character backstories, I highly recommend starting with the first book, 'The Shadow Bound Queen.' Straube's writing style is captivating, pulling you into a world brimming with ancient lore and breathtaking magic. Regarding the 'mythology' aspect, which I loved, some searches mention 'Apollo.' While I won't confirm specific character names beyond Tem, Leo, and Caspen, I can assure you that the book is steeped in rich, divine-like figures and ancient powers that influence the characters' fates. It definitely taps into that epic mythological feel, making the stakes feel incredibly high and the world feel expansive. The conflict between these powerful beings and human emotions is what really hooked me. Finally, a shout-out to the 'Between Two Kings book cover.' As you can see, the art is just stunning! The dark, ornate design with the flowers, fruits, snake, and hands perfectly captures the essence of the story – beautiful, dangerous, and deeply entwined. It's a cover that promises a captivating read, and it definitely delivers.
