How I Got Faster At Running In College

In the last year, I got my long run pace down from 8:30 to 7:30/mile. What helped me most was strength training in addition to my running workouts. Also speed workouts like interval training and tempo runs helped me build the endurance to keep a faster pace. It’s also good to train core to maintain stability while running! #lemon8partner #lemon8college #runningworkouts #runner #active

Incorporating strength training exercises such as leg curls and hyperextensions can significantly improve muscle endurance and power, which are crucial for maintaining faster paces without fatigue. These exercises target muscle groups that support your legs and hips, helping to prevent injuries and boost running efficiency. Speed workouts, like interval training and tempo runs, are essential tools for building endurance and increasing your anaerobic threshold. Interval training involves alternating between high-intensity sprints and recovery periods, which enhances your cardiovascular capacity and running economy. Tempo runs, performed at a challenging yet sustainable pace, help your body adjust to working harder for longer, allowing you to sustain faster speeds during races or long runs. Another key element often overlooked is core strength. A strong core improves your running posture and stability, reducing energy wastage caused by excessive movement and helping you maintain proper form, especially during long runs. Incorporating core workouts such as planks, bridges, and dynamic stability exercises can yield noticeable improvements in your speed and endurance. Together, these components create a balanced training regimen that promotes faster running with reduced injury risk. Whether you’re a college athlete or a recreational runner, integrating strength training with targeted speed workouts and core exercises can transform your running performance and help you reach new personal bests.
