Confirmation VS Validation

Learning to distinguish between confirmation and validation was a turning point for me, and I bet it can be for you too! When I first heard the terms, I thought they were almost the same. But that couldn't be further from the truth, and understanding it literally transformed how I approach decisions and self-worth. Confirmation is your intuition giving you a nudge. Think of it like this: you already have an answer or a feeling deep down. When something external aligns with that feeling, it's confirmation. It's not new information; it's just your inner wisdom being affirmed. For example, if you've been feeling like a certain career path is right for you, and then you stumble upon an article or talk to someone who shares a similar positive experience, that's confirmation. Your inner voice already told you, and the outside world is simply echoing it. It doesn't mean you needed that external sign, but it feels good when it happens. Validation, on the other hand, comes from a place of self-doubt and a need for external approval. This is when we don't trust ourselves, or we're afraid of being wrong, so we look to others to tell us our feelings, choices, or even our existence is okay. I used to do this constantly! I’d share an idea, not because I truly believed in it but to see if others would give me the green light. If I didn't get that approval, I'd often abandon the idea, even if my gut was screaming otherwise. This cycle is exhausting and keeps us from truly trusting our intuition. So, how do we stop seeking external validation and start trusting ourselves? It’s a journey, but here are some steps that really helped me: Become Self-Aware: The first step is to notice when you're seeking validation. Is it before every decision? After every social interaction? Journaling helped me identify my triggers and patterns. I'd ask myself, "Do I already know the answer to this?" If yes, I'd try to act on it without asking for outside opinions. Build Your Inner Compass: Spend time alone. Meditate, go for walks, or just sit in silence. This helps you reconnect with your inner voice and intuition. The more you listen to it, the stronger it becomes. Gradually, you'll find it easier to trust your initial feelings rather than immediately looking for others to tell you what to think. Challenge Your Fears: Often, the need for validation stems from a fear of criticism, rejection, or failure. Acknowledge these fears but don't let them dictate your actions. Remind yourself that your worth isn't determined by others' opinions. Practice Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself when you slip up. It's normal to want to be accepted. The goal isn't to become completely immune to others' thoughts, but to make sure your own self-worth isn't dependent on them. Connect to Your Manifestations: For those of you interested in manifestation, this shift is incredibly powerful. When you trust your intuition and act from a place of inner knowing, you send a much clearer signal to the universe. If you're constantly seeking external validation, you're essentially saying, "I don't trust my own vision, does anyone else think this is a good idea?" This creates resistance. When you confidently align with your inner desires (confirmation), you become a magnet for what you want to manifest. Your intuition is often a sign that your manifestation is coming, so learn to trust it without needing proof from the world. Your intuition is enough. Embracing your inner wisdom is a profound act of self-love. It frees you from the endless chase of external approval and empowers you to live a life truly aligned with who you are. Start small, trust that gut feeling, and watch how much more confident and authentic you become.
