So…I dropped out…three times 🫠☹️

So… I dropped out of college… three times 🫠

2020 was an experience for us all but on top of that I developed an eating disorder around October. This progressed into me becoming malnourished around February 2021 and my therapist and I looked into treatment. I can give a story surrounding residential and PHP later because, that was a time and frankly not a great one. I was there for 5-6 months… yikes. That was the first time I had to drop out.

Second time was simple enough: I ran out of money. I was struggling paying treatment bills and college tuition so I plain just had to stop.

Third time: I became chronically Ill ✨✨

I was diagnosed with orthostatic intolerance and suspected POTS, ASD, chronic fatigue, Bertolottis syndrome, TMD, suspected hEDS(apt in Dec) and with all of this and more piling on, I decided it was in my best interest to take a break. I may go back someday, but right now I need to rest.

If you read all that comment a green emoji (fav color) and thank you for being here :) you matter 💚

... Read moreMy journey of stepping away from college three times wasn't a choice I ever imagined, but looking back, each pause became a profound lesson in prioritizing myself. If you or someone you care about is navigating a tough college year, battling mental health struggles, or feeling overwhelmed by their studies and uncertain about their future, I truly understand. It’s easy to feel immense pressure to power through, but sometimes, the bravest decision is to take a breath and re-evaluate. When my eating disorder spiraled, and later when chronic illnesses like suspected POTS and chronic fatigue took hold, my academic performance became secondary to simply surviving. It taught me that our physical and mental health are the absolute foundations for everything else. Ignoring these cries for help only leads to deeper issues. For anyone facing similar mental health challenges, whether it's anxiety, depression, or an eating disorder, please know that seeking professional help isn't a sign of weakness; it's an act of incredible strength. Therapy, support groups, or even just talking to a trusted friend or family member can make an enormous difference. Don't let the fear of 'falling behind' prevent you from getting the support you need. Then there were the financial hurdles. College tuition and treatment bills felt insurmountable. It’s a harsh reality that money often dictates our options, but it’s also a reminder to explore every resource available. Scholarships, financial aid counseling, or even temporary work can provide breathing room. Sometimes, taking a semester or two off to work and save isn't 'dropping out' in defeat, but strategically planning for a more stable return. The idea of 'dropping out of college' often carries a heavy stigma, but my experience showed me it can be a pathway to deeper personal growth. It gave me space to heal, to understand my body and mind better, and to consider what I truly wanted from my future, rather than just following a prescribed academic path. It’s about redefining success. Maybe your path isn't linear, and that's perfectly okay. This time away has allowed me to cultivate resilience and self-awareness that I might never have gained in a traditional academic setting. For those struggling with their studies due to external pressures or internal battles, remember that your worth isn't tied to a GPA or a degree timeline. It's about learning, growing, and becoming a well-rounded individual. Taking a break can provide clarity, allowing you to return to your studies with renewed focus, or even discover a completely different passion. Your personal growth is a continuous journey, not just a destination achieved by a certain age or degree. Be kind to yourself, listen to what your body and mind truly need, and trust that your unique path will lead you exactly where you're meant to be.
