Let’s Talk: Endoscopy Tips

I’ve had 2 EDGs in the past year😵‍💫

Here’s my tip to make the process smoother🫡

📄Follow Pre Op instructions from your doctor. This will specify when you need to fast. And what medications you can and cannot take before your procedure.

🚰 Make sure you drink plenty of water and electrolytes. This will help you recover from any medication they give you. Extra salt if you are a POTs person, I recommend LMNT!

🧸Bring along a comfort item. I brought my partners jacket to keep me company. I wasn’t allowed to keep it during. But some places allow small stuffed animals!

🧦 Wear something comfy! I went with my favorite PJs. I got them from the Walmart men’s section last year:) slip on shoes and sock make getting undressed and dressed easier when you may still be loopy.

❕Be honest with your doctor. If you use any natural medicine🍃, ate when you were fasting, or have any concerns speak up!

🤎Bring someone you trust to take you home. If you are using any form of sedation you will need a driver. Remember you may be emotional and vulnerable when waking up. Pick someone who can comfort you. Or giggle with you if you wake up cracking jokes like me😋

🛏️ Rest afterwards! Even if you’re feeling energized, your body need to recover fully. Cuddle up at home, eat a cozy and soft meal such as soup after, tea with honey, and a good nights rest:)

... Read morePreparing for an endoscopy can be daunting, but understanding the process is key to easing anxiety and ensuring a smooth experience. From pre-op instructions to post-procedure recovery, each step is crucial. **1. Pre-Procedure Preparation:** Following your doctor’s pre-op instructions is vital for ensuring the procedure goes as planned. This includes adhering to the fasting guidelines and adjusting your medication regimen. Knowledge about what to expect can help you feel more in control. **2. Importance of Hydration:** Staying well-hydrated before your endoscopy is essential. Electrolyte drinks can be particularly beneficial, especially for those with conditions like POTS. Consider recommendations such as LMNT to enhance your hydration. **3. Comfort Items:** Bringing a comfort item, such as a stuffed animal or a beloved piece of clothing, can significantly reduce anxiety during the procedure. Many facilities allow small items that can provide a sense of security. **4. Dress for Comfort:** Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to remove and put back on. Slip-on shoes and soft fabrics can make a big difference when you may still be feeling the effects of sedation. **5. Communicate Openly:** Don’t hesitate to be honest with your healthcare provider about your concerns, dietary supplements, or anything unusual in your health history. Transparency can help tailor your care to your needs. **6. Recovery Support:** Having a trusted friend or family member accompany you to the appointment is crucial, especially if sedation will be used. They can provide emotional support as you recover and ensure you get home safely. **7. Post-Procedure Rest:** Rest is essential after the procedure. Prepare comforting meals and give your body time to recover fully. A cozy environment can facilitate a better recovery, both physically and emotionally.
