My 3 day Jakarta Itinerary and cannot-miss tips 🇮🇩

Everyone told me to skip Jakarta... I'm SO glad I didn't. 🇮🇩✨

They say it's just a chaotic city for a quick stopover, but they're missing its true soul! Look past the traffic and you’ll find a city bursting with history, incredible food, and some of the friendliest people.

I spent 3 days uncovering its best-kept secrets, and I’m sharing my exact plan so you can fall in love with it too!

My 3-Day Itinerary covers:

🏛️ Day 1: Time-traveling through Old Batavia's colonial squares and exploring the nation's monumental heart.

🏮 Day 2: A sensory overload in the BEST way, diving deep into Chinatown’s markets, temples, and street food scene.

🎨 Day 3: Discovering Jakarta's modern creative side, from world-class art museums to cool antique markets.

PLUS, I'm sharing the #1 most important tip for any first-timer: choosing the right neighborhood to stay in (it will save you HOURS in traffic, trust me!).

Ready to give Indonesia's capital the chance it deserves?

... Read moreWhen planning a trip to Jakarta, one of the biggest challenges I faced was navigating the city’s notorious traffic. Choosing the right neighborhood to stay in truly makes a world of difference. I stayed in Menteng, a historic yet centrally located area that gave me easy access to all my key destinations without spending half the day in traffic. Transportation apps are lifesavers in Jakarta. I highly recommend using Grab for quick car and motorbike rides and Bluebird as a trusted metered taxi service. These options helped me move around efficiently and safely, even during peak hours. I also found that venturing beyond the usual tourist spots offered a richer experience. For example, exploring markets in Chinatown introduced me to authentic street food and local temple culture that few travelers discover. The blend of old and new Jakarta—from colonial architecture to cutting-edge museums—showcases the city’s dynamic vibe that many overlook. Lastly, don't forget to indulge in the local cuisine. Some of the best meals I had came from street vendors who magically combine flavors you won’t find elsewhere. Be adventurous with your food choices and try dishes recommended by locals. Overall, with the right planning and mindset, Jakarta can surprise you with its warmth, history, and vibrant city life. I hope my itinerary and tips encourage you to give Indonesia’s capital a chance beyond the usual perceptions.
