My 🇮🇩 Jakarta Food Diaries: HITS AND MISSES
Planning a trip to Jakarta? 🇮🇩 Don't get lost in the massive food scene!
I spent a weekend on a mission: to find the REAL gems and save you from the tourist traps. This is my brutally honest food diary from 9 spots, from legendary restaurants to simple street food. No gatekeeping here!
Here’s the quick rundown of where you absolutely NEED to go (and what you can definitely skip 😉).
💎 GO OUT OF YOUR WAY:
1️⃣ Remboelan: An electrifying experience. The smoked beef (Sei Sapi) was a 10/10, but be warned: the flavours are INTENSE.
2️⃣ Cafe Batavia: A surprise highlight! Have breakfast in a 200-year-old colonial building. The Soto Betawi was complex and delicious.
3️⃣ Bandar Djakarta: A must for seafood lovers. You pick your live seafood and they cook it for you. Incredibly fresh, but also incredibly spicy!
4️⃣ Pantjoran Tea House: Go for one dish: the XO Fried Carrot Cake. It was one of the best things I ate on the whole trip.
💨 GOOD FOR A QUICK STOP:
5️⃣ Nasi Uduk Kebon Kacang: Simple, fragrant coconut rice that's cheap and satisfying. Perfect for a quick takeaway.
6️⃣ RR Chocolate: Artisanal chocolate with unique flavours. Their rich iced chocolate and dark chocolate ice cream are non-negotiable.
➡️ I'D SKIP IT:
7️⃣ Bakmi Gang Kelinci: One noodle dish was good, but the rest of the meal was inconsistent and forgettable.
8️⃣ Martabakku: Both the sweet and savoury versions were underwhelming. You can find better martabak elsewhere.
