... Read moreOh my goodness, you guys! If there's one thing I absolutely adore making, it's a delicious plate of perfectly crispy fried shrimp & fish. There’s just something about that golden crunch and tender, flaky inside that makes any dinner feel special. I know many of you are searching for that ultimate fried fish and shrimp recipe, so I just had to share my personal go-to method that always gets rave reviews! First off, getting that incredible crisp is key. For both the fried shrimp and the fish, I swear by a two-stage batter – it makes all the difference! My Crowd-Pleasing Fried Shrimp & Fish Recipe: Ingredients: 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined 1 lb white fish fillets (cod, tilapia, catfish), cut into 2-inch pieces 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup cornstarch (my secret for extra crispiness!) 1 tbsp Old Bay seasoning (or favorite seafood seasoning) 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp paprika Salt and black pepper to taste 1 large egg, beaten 1/2 cup cold club soda or sparkling water Vegetable oil for deep frying Instructions: Prep: Pat shrimp and fish very dry. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Dry Mix: In a large bowl, whisk flour, cornstarch, Old Bay, garlic powder, and paprika. Wet Batter: In a separate bowl, whisk egg with cold club soda. Dredge: First, coat seafood in dry mix, shaking off excess. Dip: Then, dip into wet batter, letting excess drip. Final Coat: Immediately transfer back to dry mix for a second, thorough coating. Press gently. Place on a wire rack. Deep Frying: Heat 3-4 inches of oil in a pot to 350-375°F (175-190°C). This is crucial to deep fry shrimp and fish perfectly – maintains crispness without greasiness. Fry in Batches: Carefully lower a few pieces into hot oil. Fry 2-4 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Drain & Season: Remove with slotted spoon, place on wire rack over paper towels to drain. Season immediately with more salt. Now, let's talk about what goes good with fried shrimp for dinner? The sides are just as important! Here are some of my absolute favorite sides with breaded shrimp and fish: Creamy Coleslaw: Its cool, tangy crunch perfectly complements the rich fried seafood. Hush Puppies: Little fried cornmeal delights are a must for a Southern-inspired feast. Crispy French Fries: A classic for a reason, always a hit! Lemon Wedges & Tartar Sauce: Simple but essential for brightening flavors. Steamed Green Beans: For a fresher, lighter counterpoint. This entire meal just screams comfort and deliciousness. Whether it’s for a weeknight or a special gathering, this fried shrimp & fish combo, with these amazing sides, is always a winner. Trust me, you'll be making this again and again!
