forgetfulness was hurting me
In the beginning, when we were just dating, my boyfriend who’s now my husband had a habit of forgetting the little things. Our anniversary would slip by, he’d blank on my favorite snacks or songs, and more than once, my birthday just didn’t seem to register the way I hoped it would. I’d remind him, gently at first, thinking maybe he was just distracted or didn’t realize how important those things were to me. But after a while, it started to hurt.
Eventually, I had to be honest. And to his credit, he listened. Really listened. He didn’t get defensive or brush it off. Instead, he started writing things down in his phone my birthday, our anniversary, even little details I’d mentioned in passing. He set reminders so he wouldn’t forget, not just because I asked him to, but because he wanted to be better for me.
Now, our communication is so much stronger. He checks in, he remembers, and I feel heard. It wasn’t about being perfect it was about showing effort. It changed everything.
