Would you be upset if he forgot yalls anniversary?

My boyfriend forgot our anniversary and it really made me mad. We had been together for five years at that point, and he could never remember the date. He couldn’t even get the month right, which honestly made me feel like it wasn’t important to him at all.

Eventually, I had to tell him multiple times until he finally gave in and put the date on his calendar with a reminder to go off every single year. That was the only way I could feel confident he wouldn’t forget again.

Now it’s kind of funny though, because we ended up getting married on our anniversary. So he better not forget it now! 😂 At least this way, the date will forever be tied to one of the biggest milestones in our lives, and forgetting it would be impossible or at least I hope so.

... Read moreHey everyone, I totally get it – that gut punch feeling when your partner forgets a special date, especially your anniversary. It's completely valid to feel angry, hurt, and even a bit undervalued, just like I did when my boyfriend forgot our 5th anniversary. It makes you question things, right? You're not alone in feeling this way, and you have every right to be upset when your partner forgets an important anniversary. So, how do you even begin to tell your boyfriend he forgot your anniversary? My advice? Don't let it fester. Find a calm moment to bring it up, without immediately going on the attack. Use 'I' statements: 'I felt really sad and disappointed when I realized you forgot our anniversary.' Explain how it made you feel rather than just accusing him. This opens up a conversation instead of shutting it down. Remember, the goal isn't to punish, but to ensure you both feel loved and recognized. Sometimes, it's not intentional malice. Maybe he's genuinely forgetful (like mine was!), stressed, or just not wired to remember dates the same way you are. That doesn't mean it's okay, but understanding the 'why' can help you both find a solution. What to do next? Firstly, acknowledge your feelings. Then, suggest solutions together. What worked for me was getting him to put it on his calendar with yearly reminders – it might sound simple, but it was a game-changer. You could also plan a 'make-up' celebration together, something you both genuinely enjoy. And what about that creeping feeling that 'he doesn't make an effort to see me' or in general? Forgetting an anniversary can sometimes feel like a symptom of a larger issue. If this is a pattern, it's a sign to have a deeper conversation about effort and priorities in the relationship. An anniversary isn't just a date; it's a reflection of your shared journey and commitment. It's about feeling valued and remembered. You deserve to feel important! My friend, whose husband also forgot their anniversary once, actually suggested focusing on future traditions they could both look forward to, alongside the calendar reminders. It’s a common issue, whether it's your boyfriend or when your husband forgets your anniversary. It’s okay to look for 'he forgot our anniversary quotes' to validate your feelings, but ultimately, the real power comes from within your relationship. Focus on what you can do together to prevent it from happening again and to strengthen your bond. These moments, though painful, can be opportunities for growth and deeper understanding. If you're still feeling that sting, remember you're powerful, your feelings are valid, and you have every right to communicate your needs clearly. And hey, maybe one day, like me, you'll end up getting an engagement ring and even getting married on that very date, making it impossible to forget!
