Milos ready for Halloween!!

Picking out a Halloween costume for Milo this year was an adventure, especially with him "playing horse & cowboy!" I originally envisioned him strutting around happily, but as the original post mentioned, he wasn't exactly thrilled at first! He was trying to bite the little cowboy off his back almost immediately. What I learned (the hard way!) is to introduce the costume slowly. Let them sniff it, give treats, and try putting it on for short periods, gradually increasing the time. Positive reinforcement is your best friend here! I started giving Milo his favorite treats whenever the costume was near, and then when it was on for just a minute. It really helped him associate the costume with good things. Safety is paramount. Always ensure the costume doesn't obstruct their vision, hearing, or ability to move freely. No loose parts they could chew off and swallow, and make sure it's not too tight or too hot. With Milo's cowboy costume, I checked that it didn't restrict his breathing or leg movement. Also, never leave your pet unsupervised while they're in a costume, especially if it's their first time. Even though he wasn't an instant fan, seeing him eventually get comfortable and prance around (even if a little reluctantly!) made for some truly memorable and hilarious moments.
