everyone say hi to max!!
Max is eight years old! He’s scared of a lot of things, but he loves to play fetch! #petplaytime #lemon8challenge #AskLemon8 #dogsoflemon8 #shihtzu
It’s hard to believe Max is already eight years old! Time truly flies when you’re having fun with your best furry friend. He’s been such a joy in my life, and watching him grow from a tiny pup to the charming adult he is now has been an incredible journey. He’s a beautiful light-colored Shih Tzu, and I often catch him just lying on our light-tiled floor, looking directly at the camera with those big, soulful eyes – like he knows he’s being photographed! You know how some dogs have their little quirks? Max definitely does! He’s quite a timid little guy, scared of a lot of things you wouldn't expect. A sudden sneeze, the vacuum cleaner, or even a new bag of groceries can send him scurrying for cover under the bed. It can be a challenge sometimes, trying to keep him comfortable and feeling safe. We’ve learned to create a calm environment for him, speaking in soft tones and introducing new items or people very gradually. Building that trust and security is so important for a sensitive soul like him. If your 'lil' dog is also a bit of a scaredy-cat, I'd love to hear your tips for helping them feel secure! But then, there's fetch! It's like a complete personality transformation. One minute he’s hiding from a leaf blowing past the window, and the next, he’s a furry blur chasing after his favorite squeaky toy. His love for playing fetch is absolutely boundless, and it’s truly one of my favorite things about him. Even at eight years old, his enthusiasm is just infectious. We usually play indoors with soft, lightweight toys to protect his joints, or sometimes in our fenced backyard when the weather is nice. The way his ears perk up and his tail wags when he sees the ball is just pure happiness. It's a wonderful way to keep him active and mentally stimulated, especially since he's not one for long, adventurous walks. Shih Tzus are known for their affectionate and playful nature, and Max perfectly embodies that, especially when he’s in fetch mode. They were bred to be companion dogs, and Max certainly excels at companionship! For anyone considering a 'lil' Shih Tzu, be prepared for a dog who loves to be by your side. They also need regular grooming to keep their beautiful coats from matting, which is another routine I've grown to love as part of caring for him. Keeping an eight-year-old dog like Max happy and healthy involves a good balance of activity and comfort. Regular but gentle exercise, like our fetch sessions, helps maintain his muscle tone, and mental games keep his mind sharp. We also make sure he has a cozy bed where he feels safe, especially during those scary moments. Seeing him content and enjoying his golden years makes every effort worthwhile. He might be a 'lil' dog, but he fills our home with so much love and laughter. What special ways do you keep your older dogs engaged and happy?
