We didn’t ask to bleed

I feel like period products are so expensive! I like buying non toxic period products and they cost a pretty penny. I feel like they should at least offer women 1 free box a month. It’ll be connected to our ID or phone number 😭

It’s expensive being a woman in this economy!!

What are your thoughts?

... Read moreThe cost of period products, especially those that are non-toxic and environmentally friendly, has become a significant burden for many women. Non-toxic products, which avoid harmful chemicals and are often made from organic materials, tend to carry a higher price tag compared to conventional options. This price difference can make it tough for people who menstruate to afford these safer alternatives regularly. With the ongoing economic pressures and inflation affecting household budgets globally, menstruation-related expenses add another layer of financial strain. Many advocates argue that period products should be recognized not as luxury items but as essentials — similar to how food and hygiene products are treated. There is a growing movement pushing for governments and institutions to provide at least one free box of period products per month to all women. Proposals include integrating distribution with digital ID systems or phone verification to ensure equitable access while preventing misuse. This could reduce stigma by normalizing free access and help those most financially vulnerable. Moreover, affordability is just one part of the equation. Access to non-toxic and sustainable options promotes health and environmental benefits, aligning with the increasing consumer demand for safer and more eco-conscious products. Supporting policies that provide free or subsidized non-toxic period supplies not only addresses financial equity but also advances public health goals. It's important to continue raising awareness and engaging in conversations about period poverty, especially as pricing continues to impact choices deeply. The hashtag #ShouldPeriodProductsBeFree encapsulates this debate, encouraging people worldwide to share experiences and advocate for change. Ultimately, providing affordable, non-toxic menstrual products is a critical step towards gender equity and economic justice in today's challenging economy.
