Do I need therapy?

I’m always surrounded by people… family, friends, coworkers… yet somehow, I still feel lonely. It’s not that I don’t appreciate them. It’s just that sometimes it feels like no one really understands my thoughts or how heavy my mind can get. I can be in a room full of people and still feel disconnected, like I’m there physically but not emotionally.

I tend to overthink almost everything. I worry about my husband, my dog, myself, and my family constantly. Even when everything’s fine, my brain convinces me something’s wrong. I can’t just “relax” like people tell me to… it’s not that simple.

I really want to feel better and stop carrying this constant weight on my chest. I’m starting to accept that asking for help doesn’t make me weak… it actually means I’m trying. Anyone else going through something similar? I’d love to know I’m not alone in this.

... Read moreFeeling lonely in a room full of people and experiencing constant overthinking are more common than many realize. This emotional disconnect, where you feel physically present but mentally elsewhere, often signals deeper issues like anxiety or depression that are hard to manage alone. Many people in similar situations find that therapy provides a safe space to untangle their thoughts and develop practical strategies to cope with overwhelming feelings. Therapy isn't just for crises; it can be a proactive step toward understanding your mental landscape better. Approaching therapy can feel scary at first — especially when you worry it means admitting weakness — but it actually takes strength and courage to seek help. Therapists are trained to listen and guide without judgment, helping you identify patterns of negative thinking and teaching you tools to quiet the endless mental chatter. If you’ve been wondering, "Do I need therapy?" consider signs like persistent loneliness, a racing mind that won’t quiet down, and feelings of anxiety that interfere with daily life. It’s important to remind yourself you’re not alone in feeling this way — many people struggle silently and find connection and healing through therapy. Starting therapy can be as simple as talking to your primary care doctor for a referral or researching mental health professionals online. Some platforms even offer virtual sessions for added convenience and comfort. Remember, reaching out means you’re taking a vital first step to lighten the emotional weight you carry and regain a sense of peace in your life.

I was like this… it has calmed down a lot! I’m starting to connect more to myself, nature & family and friends. The advice I can give you is to get to the root cause. Overthinking is just fear. What are you afraid of? Then when you figure out that answer keep asking urself why? For example, after my mom died I was terrified that my fiancé or kids would die. And I never thought of death before like that but my mom dying so suddenly triggered something in me. It became so bad that I couldn’t sleep at night, I couldn’t enjoy anything without thoughts popping into my head, I had to talk to myself so I could calm down and that barely worked. My point is that the fear of losing them caused me to not even be able to enjoy them fully while I still actually had them in front of me which is what motivated me to overcome this. I asked what am I afraid of? Them dying, or leaving me forever. Or even me dying & leaving them young when they need me. Why? Because I would miss them. Why? Because I love them & want to see them. And I would keep going. Then I asked “what would I do if this happened?” You gotta figure out worse case scenario and then figure out a game plan. That way you trick your brain into knowing you could handle it and it wouldn’t be so terrifying and then you could actually relax. So I said well if they died I would probably be depressed crying. But would it last? Have I gotten over past ones dying in the past that have meant a lot to me? Yes. Have you seen many other people that are actually going thru this? Yes and although they speak about how hard it is, I see them pushing through everyday which means I can too. I have family and friends that would still support me if this happened. I know they would watch over me & we would see each other again one day. And I kept going and kept repeating this to myself and because I actually believe it, my body physically and mentally started to actually relax and let go of tension. The thoughts disappeared as well
