my brain is so tired

My brain never seems to shut off lately, and life in my 20s feels like a constant juggling act. I keep overthinking every decision, every timeline, every “should” that comes with adulthood.

Buying a house, getting married, planning to travel, and thinking about kids… it’s all beautiful but overwhelming. Sometimes it feels like I’m racing through milestones without actually breathing between them. I just want a pause button.

I’m still learning that it’s okay to slow down… that I don’t need to have it all figured out right now. Life doesn’t come with a deadline, and peace comes from giving myself permission to just BE.

The pressure to make the "right" decisions across different aspects of life—such as buying a house, getting married, traveling, or planning for children—can create significant mental fatigue. This is exacerbated by social media, which often presents an unrealistic highlight reel of others’ lives, leading to constant comparison and feelings of being behind. It’s important to recognize that this mental noise and pressure are common and valid experiences. Taking deliberate steps to quiet the mind can make a big difference. One practical approach is setting boundaries with social media to minimize comparison and unrealistic expectations, allowing yourself to focus on your own unique journey. Additionally, embracing the idea that life doesn’t come with fixed deadlines can help reduce overwhelming thoughts about timelines and "shoulds." It’s okay not to have everything figured out at once; progress happens steadily and at your own pace. Incorporating mindfulness practices such as meditation or simple breathing exercises can provide the mental pause that many crave. Creating a daily routine that includes rest and self-care is essential. Even small breaks from overthinking can refresh the mind and enable clearer decision-making. Remember, mental health is as important as physical health, and seeking support from friends, family, or professionals when needed can provide relief and perspective. Ultimately, giving yourself permission to just be—without judgment or pressure—cultivates inner peace and resilience. This self-compassion helps reduce the overwhelming mental noise and fosters a healthier mindset to enjoy life’s milestones fully, rather than racing through them.
