Is anyone else’s period always late?

My period used to be so normal that I could practically predict it to the day without even checking my app. For over ten years, I tracked it religiously!! every symptom, every fluctuation, every cycle. And for the longest time, it was consistent. Then suddenly, this year everything changed. Now it’s late almost every single month, the dates keep shifting and surprising me.

My body is probably reacting to stress, change, pressure, and everything in between. But even knowing all of that, it still feels confusing and honestly a little unsettling. I miss the regular cycles I used to have.

I hate that I will probably never know the exact reason why my cycle suddenly became irregular. I always assumed I’d get answers or clarity if something ever changed, but instead I’m just learning to accept the uncertainty.

Read moreMany people experience changes in their menstrual cycles at different phases of life, and it’s quite common for periods to become irregular due to stress, lifestyle shifts, or emotional upheaval. When the body encounters significant changes—such as moving into a new home, planning a wedding, or increased work pressure—the hypothalamus, which regulates your menstrual cycle, can be affected. This disruption can lead to cycles that suddenly become unpredictable or late. Tracking menstrual cycles religiously for years can build an intimate understanding of your body’s patterns, so it's understandably frustrating when those rhythms shift without a clear explanation. However, it’s important to recognize that changes in cycle timing do not always have an identifiable cause. Stress hormones like cortisol can interfere with the balance of reproductive hormones, delaying ovulation and thus a period. Many people find it helpful to continue keeping detailed records of symptoms and cycles, as this information can be valuable if consulting a healthcare provider becomes necessary. While uncertainty can feel unsettling, focusing on self-care practices—adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, gentle exercise, and mindfulness—may help your body readjust and restore more consistent cycles over time. Remember, irregular periods are common and often temporary. If your cycles remain irregular for an extended period or are accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it’s advisable to seek medical advice to rule out underlying conditions. Meanwhile, accepting that some variability is normal can reduce anxiety around late or missed periods and help you maintain peace of mind during life’s many transitions.

Sometimes it is late because as someone with PCOS, I happen to experience it and I get discouraged.
