My dog can smell his presents through the wrapping

My dog is already starting to sense that he has toys underneath the Christmas tree. I am afraid that one day I’m gonna wake up and all his presents are gonna be open. My mom tells me to just give them to him because he doesn’t even understand what Christmas is lol #lemon8christmas #lemon8contest

This keen olfactory ability allows them to pick up scents that humans simply can’t perceive, making wrapped gifts scent bombs to a curious canine. During the holiday season, it’s common for dog owners to witness their pets getting anxious or overly excited around gifts. This is often because dogs associate certain scents with toys or treats, which get even stronger when wrapped. It’s important to understand that although dogs don’t celebrate Christmas as humans do, they can form strong associations with the sights, smells, and sounds around the festivities. To keep your pup from unwrapping all their presents before the big day, consider cleverly hiding gifts or using scent-neutral wrapping paper. You can also provide toys earlier to satisfy their curiosity or create a special 'doggie gift pile' they can access at appropriate times. It’s all about balancing their curiosity with controlled excitement. Moreover, engaging your dog in holiday activities and offering plenty of attention and playtime can help reduce the anxiety that often comes with the excitement of new toys appearing mysteriously under the tree. Remember, this season is about joy and fun for all family members, including your furry friends. Embracing your dog's keen nose and playful spirit can make Christmas preparations even more delightful. Seeing their anticipation and excitement as they sniff out presents through the wrapping paper is one of the many heartwarming aspects of sharing the holidays with a pet.

I had a golden retriever that knew that her favorite treats were under the Christmas tree. She actually opened her Christmas presents on Christmas morning. I don’t think she ever sniffed out any toys though. Dogs are funny they’re just like kids. And I would wait until Christmas because even though your dog may not know that it’s Christmas everybody else will be opening things and the dog should be included with their own presence to open. 🥰
