Is Blue Bell’s Chocolate Lava Cake Worth It?

I was at the store when I saw the new Blue Bell Chocolate Lava Cake ice cream, and there was no way I was leaving without trying it! Of course, I also grabbed my favorite, Cookies & Cream, because it’s become a must every time I buy ice cream. The pint sizes were only $4.12 each, which I thought was a great deal.

🍫 Chocolate Lava Cake 7/10

This flavor was definitely good! It has a rich chocolate ice cream base with chocolate cake pieces and a gooey chocolate swirl that really gives it that lava cake vibe. If you’re a huge chocolate lover, you’ll probably enjoy this one. For me, it was a little too rich after a few bites, so I don’t think it’ll replace my favorite, but I’d still buy it again whenever I’m craving something extra chocolatey. One thing I did notice is that the entire pint is 890 calories, which is definitely on the higher side.

🍪 Cookies & Cream 10/10

This one continues to be my favorite Blue Bell flavor! It’s creamy, packed with cookie pieces, and somehow tastes just as good every single time I buy it. It’s the perfect balance of vanilla ice cream and chocolate cookies, and I never get tired of it. The whole pint is 700 calories, which is still a treat, but it’s a pretty big difference compared to the Chocolate Lava Cake.

Overall, I’m so glad I picked up both flavors! The new Chocolate Lava Cake was fun to try and definitely satisfied my chocolate craving, but Cookies & Cream is still my # 1 . I would absolutely repurchase both of these and already know they’ll be making another trip home with me soon! 🍦

... Read moreAfter diving into the Blue Bell Chocolate Lava Cake ice cream, I have even more thoughts to share, especially for those of you trying to decide if it’s your next freezer staple! First off, let’s talk about that 'lava' swirl. When I first scooped it, I was really curious about how gooey it would be. It’s definitely a substantial swirl of chocolate, thicker than your average fudge ribbon. It has a slightly denser, almost ganache-like consistency rather than a runny 'lava,' which I actually appreciated because it held up well in the ice cream. The cake pieces are soft and moist, not hard or icy, which is a huge plus. They blend in perfectly with the rich chocolate ice cream base, adding a lovely textural contrast without being overwhelming. It truly gives you that dessert-within-a-dessert experience. For fellow chocolate lovers, this isn't just any chocolate ice cream. The base itself is a deep, robust chocolate, leaning towards a dark chocolate flavor profile without being bitter. It's intense, which is why, as I mentioned, it can be quite rich after a few spoonfuls. But if you’re looking for a serious chocolate fix, this delivers. It’s not a light, milky chocolate; it’s a decadent, dessert-focused chocolate that stands up to the cake pieces and swirl. Speaking of richness and the calories, yes, it’s an indulgence, as the article mentions with its 890 calories per pint, or approximately 300 calories per serving according to the images. For me, that means it's definitely a treat I plan for, or something I share! A small scoop in a waffle cone or paired with a plain vanilla cookie can help balance the intensity. Sometimes, I even find a tiny sprinkle of sea salt can really enhance the chocolate notes and cut through some of that richness, making each bite even more satisfying. Think of it as a special occasion dessert rather than an everyday snack, and you’ll appreciate it even more. If you’re wondering where to find this chocolatey goodness, the 'near me' searches are totally valid! Blue Bell products, especially newer flavors, can sometimes vary in availability. I usually check my local larger grocery stores first, like Walmart, Kroger, or H-E-B if you're in Texas. Their websites often have a product locator tool where you can input your zip code to see which stores carry specific Blue Bell flavors. It’s always a good idea to call ahead too, just to make sure they have it in stock before you make a special trip. That way, you won't be disappointed if you're craving that chocolate lava cake experience! Overall, while my heart still belongs to Cookies & Cream for everyday enjoyment, the Blue Bell Chocolate Lava Cake ice cream is a fantastic contender for when I need something truly indulgent and deeply chocolatey. It's a fun experience, and for the price I paid – around $4.12 a pint – it feels like a really good value for a premium treat. Don't be afraid to try it, especially if you're a dark chocolate fan looking for a rich, satisfying dessert!
