Coola First Impression
I have seen the Coola brand EVERYWHERE and I am always very intrigued.
Target has now started to put testers out so I figured it was a good time to test out the Coola Illuminating Serum.

The idea of a glowy serum with SPF is so intriguing to me. I am obsessed with having a glowy base both under makeup and just on a regular day.
🤔Cons:
-The consistency is a lot thicker than I thought it would be
-there is a white cast after blending the product out...I am very very fair and there was a cast on me (last photo) I cant imagine how this would blend out on someone even a little bit deeper than me.
- strong spf smell...not a fan of spf smell and this was STRONG
👍Pros:
-cute glass bottle
-SPF 30
-Blue light protection

I was not overall impressed by this product which is disappointing because I've been eyeing it for months.

Navigating the world of SPF can be tricky, especially when you're looking for a product that does more than just protect. Like many of you, I've been on the hunt for that perfect illuminating SPF serum that can give me a healthy glow while keeping my skin safe from the sun. The idea of waking up, applying one product, and having both sun protection and a radiant base is incredibly appealing. My recent experience with an illuminating SPF 30 serum really highlighted some common challenges. When a product promises an illuminating finish, you expect a seamless, dewy look. However, one of the biggest hurdles I encountered was the dreaded white cast. This often happens with mineral sunscreens that use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as their active ingredients. While these "organic ingredients" offer fantastic broad-spectrum protection, their physical nature can sometimes leave a ghostly film, especially on fairer skin tones like mine, as the OCR also noted with the 'white cast after blending' observation. To combat this, I've learned a few tricks: try warming the serum between your palms before application, apply in very thin layers, and gently pat it onto your skin rather than aggressively rubbing. Sometimes, letting each layer absorb for a minute or two can also help minimize the appearance of a white cast. Another aspect that often catches me off guard is the scent. While some SPF products have a pleasant, subtle aroma, others can have a very "sunscreen-y" smell that lingers. For me, a strong SPF smell can be quite off-putting, especially in a product I'm meant to wear all day under makeup. If you're sensitive to fragrances, it’s always a good idea to test the product first. Many brands are now developing fragrance-free SPF options which are a godsend for those of us who prefer our skincare to be scent-neutral. It's a small detail, but it can significantly impact your daily enjoyment of a product. The consistency of the serum also plays a huge role in its performance. When a serum has a "thick consistency," it can feel quite different on the skin compared to lighter formulations. While thicker serums can be more moisturizing, they might also take longer to absorb, and if not applied carefully, can contribute to pilling or feeling heavy. This is particularly relevant when you're looking for a product to layer under makeup. For a smooth application, I’ve found that using a small amount and pressing it into the skin, rather than spreading vigorously, often yields better results. This also helps with the illuminating properties, ensuring an even, radiant finish. Despite these challenges, the core benefits of an "illuminating SPF serum" with "SPF 30" and "blue light protection" are undeniable. Protecting your skin from UV rays is non-negotiable, and the added benefit of blue light protection, which is increasingly recognized for its impact from screens, is a thoughtful bonus. When considering such a product, it's about weighing the pros and cons based on your personal preferences and skin needs. For someone who prioritizes high SPF and a mineral filter, and doesn't mind a bit more effort in application or a stronger scent, these serums can still be a valuable addition to their routine. Ultimately, finding the right balance between protection, aesthetics, and user experience is key to a successful skincare journey.
