#PascuaYaquiTribe #MaranaAZ #Cemetery #Arizona #Tucson surrounded by new homes
Hello Everyone and specifically Pascua Yaqui Tribal members, like myself; my Cousin messaged my Family earlier and said that this is what the area around the Old Pascua Yaqui Cemetery in Marana, AZ looks like as of today. The Cemetery is fine but the area around it has been leveled off for new homes. All this has happened over the last month (May 2026), especially over the last week and a half. *If you have family members, (Pascua Yaqui Tribe members) like my Family does in this Cemetery **PLEASE let them know... ***Spread the word so we can make sure this Cemetery remains respected and left in peace. Thank you ✌️☮️💖💯 #PascuaYaquiTribe #MaranaAZ #Cemetery #Arizona #Tucson
As a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, I’ve watched with a heavy heart as the land around our ancestral cemetery in Marana, Arizona, has drastically changed over just a few weeks. While the Old Pascua Yaqui Cemetery itself remains undisturbed, the surrounding area has been leveled to make way for new housing developments, a stark reminder of how modern expansion can encroach on sacred spaces. It’s important for us, especially those with family resting in this cemetery, to stay informed and ensure that the respect and dignity of the site are maintained. These lands are not just plots of earth but hold deep cultural and spiritual significance. Communicating with local authorities and developers about preserving the cemetery's sanctity is crucial. From my own experience, engaging our community through social media and local meetings has been vital in raising awareness. Inviting fellow Pascua Yaqui members to share stories and memories about the cemetery helps keep the legacy alive and strengthens our collective voice in protecting it. For those unfamiliar, Marana is a rapidly growing area near Tucson, Arizona, with increasing residential projects. Balancing growth with respect for indigenous sites can be challenging but necessary. If you visit, please be mindful and advocate for signage or protective measures around the Old Pascua Yaqui Tribe Cemetery. Spreading the word within the tribe and peaceful advocacy can stop further disturbances. This is not just about land, it's about honoring our ancestors and preserving our heritage for future generations.
