[ OCTOBER 3! ]

Three cs for my October.

Chill: finding ways to reconnect with myself through games and movies and sleeping. It is important to me.

Clean: you let a lot of crap pile up and then you feel like the crap is you. Cleaning has become oddly comforting to me.

Compassion: poetic that it is the days of Awe for us Jews, we work to find compassion for others, for even yourself. I forgive myself for who I was last year, she isn’t who I am today but I can see her struggling and I forgive her.

... Read moreYou know that feeling, right? When your living space starts to resemble a forgotten storage unit, and every time you walk past that pile of clothes, it whispers, 'You are a mess!' Yeah, I’ve been there. My October 'Clean' goal isn't just about spotless floors, it's about reclaiming my sanity from the sneaky clutter that tries to take over. And honestly, I've found that sometimes, the only way to tackle it is with a good laugh and a healthy dose of self-compassion. It’s like that famous saying, 'One man’s trash is another man’s treasure... or is it just more clutter in someone else’s garage?' Seriously though, I used to dread cleaning. It felt like this monumental task, an endless battle against accumulating 'stuff.' But lately, I’ve started to see it differently. As mentioned in my original post, 'you let a lot of crap pile up and then you feel like the crap is you.' That hit home for me. It's not just about the physical mess; it's about the mental weight it carries. I stumbled upon some hilarious quotes about clutter the other day, and they made me realize I’m not alone in this struggle. Like, 'My house was clean. Then the kids woke up.' Or 'Dust is a protective coating for fine furniture.' While I appreciate the humor, it also subtly nudges me to actually do something about it. I’ve adopted a new mantra, inspired by one of the images I saw: 'Keep my side of the street clean.' It's a simple reminder that taking care of my immediate surroundings, even just a small area, can make a huge difference in how I feel. The 'oddly comforting' part of cleaning is real. It's not about achieving perfection, but about the process itself. Putting on some music, lighting a candle, and just focusing on one small area. Maybe it's clearing off my kitchen counter, or finally tackling that 'chairdrobe' (you know, the chair where clothes go to die). Each little victory feels like a tiny weight lifted. It’s a physical manifestation of taking control, of showing myself a bit of compassion instead of beating myself up over the mess. This October, my cleaning journey is less about perfection and more about progress, sprinkled with a good dose of humor. If you're also feeling swamped by your stuff, try to find the funny side. Maybe you'll laugh at the absurdity of that pile of mail from 2019, or the sock that's clearly been planning its escape for weeks. It makes the task less daunting. Thinking about some of those funny clutter quotes, they often highlight the sheer volume of things we accumulate. Like, 'I have too much stuff,' said no one ever… who actually has too much stuff. It's a gentle reminder that sometimes, the best cleaning tip is just to let go. The feeling of a clean space, even if temporary, is pure bliss. It ties directly into my 'Chill' goal for October. How can you truly relax when you're surrounded by visual noise? And it ties into 'Compassion' too – giving yourself the gift of a calm environment is a profound act of self-love. So, whether you're tackling your own 'crap pile' or just trying to 'Keep my side of the street clean,' remember that it's a marathon, not a sprint. And a good laugh along the way makes the whole journey much more enjoyable. Here's to a clutter-free, chill, and compassionate October!
