I’ve been on a daily devotional streak for almost 170 days. And this week — the very week I lost my tiny Molly — the passage is Philippians 4:10–13: 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘊𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘮𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴.
Coincidence?
No.
There is no accident here.
This is a Father leaning close, whispering: “𝐷𝑎𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑒𝑟, 𝐼 𝑠𝑒𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑝𝑎𝑖𝑛, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐼 𝑎𝑚 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑖𝑛 𝑖𝑡."
I can’t even wrap my head around the timing.
My heart is torn apart — already broken by loss, and then further pierced by words that felt cruel and careless. Words that didn’t heal but only trampled on the ache.
And yet, morning after morning, God keeps showing up through His Word.
The timing of these verses isn’t to dismiss my pain or to pressure me into “𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨.” It’s His way of saying: “𝐸𝑣𝑒𝑛 ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒. 𝐸𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑘. 𝐼 𝑎𝑚
𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑒𝑛𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ."
This week’s devotion asks, “What helps you trust God amid unanswered what-ifs?” That question has followed me like a whisper. And here’s the truth I’m holding onto:
Trust isn’t built on explanations — it’s built
on Presence.
Not in the “why” but in the “Who.”
And the God who gave me Molly…
The God who knew every tear I’d cry this week…
The God who steadied Paul in a prison cell…
That same God steadies me.
And He sees Macy, too. She misses her sister…
and the God who comforts me will comfort her.
I don’t understand it all.
But I know He is near.
And even in this, His presence is enough.
Trusting Him doesn’t mean pretending the ache isn’t there — it means trusting Him in the ache.

Losing a beloved pet or experiencing any profound loss can leave us feeling overwhelmed by grief and the endless 'what-ifs.' The passage from Philippians 4:10-13 offers a powerful message of contentment and God's unwavering presence, even in the most challenging circumstances. This devotional highlights an essential truth: trust in God grows not from understanding every reason behind our pain but through His constant presence and support. When grief strikes, it can be tempting to seek explanations or quick fixes to our sorrow. However, true comfort often comes from embracing God's nearness despite unanswered questions. Just as Paul found strength during his imprisonment through faith, those enduring personal losses can also find steadiness by leaning on God’s promises. The phrase "He sees every tear mine and hers. Even here, He is enough. Rooted" beautifully captures the intimate awareness God has of our suffering. This awareness is not distant; instead, it assures us that no tear is unnoticed and that God’s love remains a firm foundation during sorrowful times. Moreover, the presence of a supportive friend—sometimes seen as God's way of reminding us that we are never alone—can be deeply healing. Trust built on presence rather than explanation invites us into a deeper relationship with God. It encourages embracing vulnerability and acknowledging pain while holding onto hope. This devotional experience reminds us that contentment in all circumstances isn’t about denying grief but allowing faith to accompany us through it. Incorporating daily devotional habits, like reflecting on scripture passages such as Philippians 4:10-13, can be a practical way to nurture resilience. By focusing on God’s sufficiency—"I am your enough"—and His promise to be near, readers are encouraged to find peace amidst uncertainty and heartache. Ultimately, this journey emphasizes that even in 'the what-ifs' and painful moments, God's presence sustains and comforts, making Him truly enough.
