This morning the wind made 40 feel sharp and cold.
That sudden shift became the picture for something deeper:
fear.
Sometimes the giant is obvious.
A diagnosis.
A decision.
A burden.
Sometimes it’s the vulnerable thing God is calling us to do.
For me, one of the biggest giants I ever faced was writing my book.

Whether it’s an unexpected diagnosis, a tough decision, or a calling that feels vulnerable, these giants test our strength and faith. I have personally faced such giants, and one of the most significant was the overwhelming task of writing my book. The process brought moments of doubt and fear — much like the sharp drop in temperature from a warm 83 degrees to a biting 40 on the mountain.
I found solace in the story of David and Goliath, which teaches that even when the giant seems unbeatable, grace and faith can lead us to a new path. Grace, in this context, is not just forgiveness but a gentle force that guides us to recalculate our route when the original plan feels impossible. This perspective has helped me measure my life not by the size of my fears or burdens but by the greatness of God’s love and support.
In practical terms, when facing a personal giant, I learned to stop fixating on the problem’s enormity. Instead, I focused on small victories, daily acts of faith, and seeking support from a caring community. This approach made the journey less daunting and more enriching. Embracing vulnerability became a source of strength rather than shame.
The mountain reflections remind us to 'Look Up'—to seek perspective beyond the immediate challenges. It is a practice that encourages us to pause, breathe, and realign with a bigger purpose. Whether your giant is a life decision, a health issue, or a creative endeavor, remember that grace can 'recalculate' your path, and measuring by God’s greatness empowers resilience. This mindset shift transforms fear into hope, isolation into community, and burden into growth.
