Must read: James by Percival Everett

I'll admit, I use the term "modern classic" liberally.

It's a personal designation of a book that I think should be widely read into the future, not necessarily that it will be. James by Percival Everett is a different kind of Modern Classic, one that will be read in the future, in schools, and alongside its weaker companion, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

James is certainly "the book of 2024" and for good reason, I mean, have you seen a poor review yet? I could go on singing it's praises ad nauseam, but by this point you know you should read it if you haven't yet. So go, pick up your copy from your local bookstore, and join the choir.

... Read moreJames by Percival Everett has captivated readers and critics alike, emerging as a must-read for literature enthusiasts. The book's exploration of complex themes and characters resonates deeply, making it not only a riveting narrative but also a significant cultural commentary. In the age of instant media, the storytelling tradition is alive in Everett's work, fostering discussions that are crucial in today's society. One standout aspect of James is how it challenges conventional storytelling while still paying homage to classic literature, akin to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Readers have lauded its depth and insight, positioning it prominently in contemporary literary discussions. As it secures its place on the New York Times Bestseller list, it's clear that this book will influence future literary conversations. If you haven't yet read James, consider adding it to your list of 2024 must-reads. Engaging with this book not only enriches your personal library but also aligns you with a growing community of readers eager to delve into thought-provoking literature.
