Quenching Your Fur Babies Thirst 💦 🐶 🤍

Filtered water for dogs can have several benefits!

💧it helps remove impurities and contaminants, ensuring cleaner and safer water for your pup.

💧filtered water can improve the taste, making it more appealing for your furry friend to stay hydrated.

💧It’s great for dogs with sensitivities or allergies, as it can help reduce the risk of them ingesting any harmful substances.

Overall, filtered water is a paw-some choice for keeping your doggo happy and healthy! 🐾💦

That probably still won’t stop them from drinking the gross water from the creek, but at least you tried 😂

Do you give your dog filtered or tap water?

... Read moreIt’s funny, my main article talks about the benefits of filtered water, and I truly believe it’s a game-changer for keeping our fur babies healthy and hydrated. But even with the best water, I've always worried about whether my dog is actually drinking enough. There's nothing scarier than realizing your beloved pup might be feeling unwell, and honestly, dehydration can sneak up on you. That's why I wanted to share my personal experience and what I've learned about spotting the signs of dehydration, especially those crucial early indicators. I remember one hot summer day, my dog, Buddy, seemed a bit off. He wasn't playing with his usual energy, and I started to panic. I had fresh water out in his stainless steel bowl, but was it enough? That's when I really started researching how to tell if a dog is dehydrated. It turns out, checking their gums is one of the quickest ways. Healthy gums should be moist and pink. If they're dry, sticky, or pale, it's a big red flag for dehydration. I learned to gently lift Buddy’s lip and press my finger on his gum. If the color doesn't return within 1-2 seconds, that’s a sign of poor circulation and potential dehydration. It's called the capillary refill time, and it's a handy trick I keep in my pet parent toolkit now! Another sign I look for is skin elasticity. You can gently pinch a loose fold of skin on their back or neck. If they're well-hydrated, the skin should snap back into place immediately. If it's slow to return or 'tents' up, that means they've lost fluid. I also check his eyes – sunken eyes can be a sign, though this usually indicates more severe dehydration. And, of course, general lethargy, reduced appetite, or a very dry nose can all point to an issue. For puppies, these signs can be even more subtle and escalate much faster, so constant vigilance is key, especially if they’re very active or it’s warm out. If I ever suspect Buddy is dehydrated, my first step is always to offer fresh water immediately. Sometimes, adding a little ice to his water stainless steel bowl makes it more appealing, or even a bit of low-sodium broth to entice him to drink. But if the signs are clear or he's not drinking, a vet visit is absolutely essential. Don't wait! Ultimately, prevention is always better than cure. Ensuring constant access to clean, fresh water is so important. This is where my love for filtered water comes in. While the debate of 'Filtered water OR TAP' might seem minor, for me, it’s about providing the best possible hydration source. Filtered water removes impurities that can sometimes deter dogs from drinking, and it often tastes better, encouraging them to drink more consistently throughout the day. I make sure Buddy's stainless steel bowl is always full and clean. On walks, I bring a portable water bottle and bowl. During playtime, we take frequent water breaks. Monitoring your dog's water intake, especially when the weather changes or they're more active, is a simple habit that can prevent a lot of stress. Knowing these signs has given me so much peace of mind, allowing me to be a more proactive pet parent. So, keep that filtered water flowing, and always keep an eye out for those subtle cues your fur baby might be giving you!

We live in a beautiful little town on the Gulf Coast but the water is nasty. We subscribe to a water service and only use the local water to bathe. My fur baby gets the water we have delivered. In my opinion, if it’s not fit for us to drink, then it’s not fit for my fur baby to drink.
