How to braid scarf on purse handle
@꧁𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕒꧂ @“Jennifer” I had to speed it up to post here but if y’all need it slower I can post on my TikTok
I absolutely love how a simple scarf can completely transform the look of a handbag! It's one of my favorite DIY tricks to refresh an old bag or add a pop of color to a new one. Plus, it's not just about style – wrapping your purse handles can also protect them from wear and tear, especially if you have light-colored leather handles. If you've been curious about how to braid a scarf on your bag handle, or even just how to tie a scarf on a purse for a different vibe, you're in the right place. It's surprisingly easy, and there are so many ways to do it! I'm going to walk you through a couple of my go-to methods, including the classic braid and a few simple wraps and ties. First things first, choosing your scarf. I've found that silk or satin scarves work best because they're smooth, easy to manipulate, and have a lovely drape. However, a lightweight cotton scarf can also work if you prefer a more casual look. The size of your scarf matters too – for wrapping a standard handle, a skinny scarf or a square scarf (around 20-30 inches) is usually perfect. If you want a fuller braid, you might need a slightly longer rectangular scarf. Method 1: The Elegant Handle Braid This is a fantastic way to add texture and a sophisticated touch to your bag. It also offers maximum handle protection. Here’s how I do it: Preparation: Fold your scarf lengthwise until it’s a strip about 1-2 inches wide. This makes it easier to handle and ensures a neat braid. Anchor Point: Find the hardware where your handle attaches to the bag. Loop one end of your folded scarf underneath this hardware. Make sure both ends of the scarf are even in length. Start Braiding: Now, you have two 'strands' of scarf and the handle itself. Treat these three as your braiding elements. Start by crossing one scarf strand over the handle, then the other scarf strand over the first one and under the handle. It's just like a regular three-strand braid, but your purse handle is one of the strands! Continue Wrapping: Keep braiding tightly, ensuring each loop covers the handle completely. Push the braided sections down occasionally to keep them close together and neat. Secure the End: Once you reach the other end of the handle, near the second piece of hardware, you'll need to secure it. You can tie the two scarf ends in a simple knot underneath the handle, or tie a small, neat bow for a decorative finish. Trim any excess if needed, or tuck the ends discreetly. Method 2: The Simple Handle Wrap If you're short on time or prefer a less intricate look, this method is super quick and stylish: Anchor: Tie one end of your scarf in a small, neat knot around the base of one handle attachment. You can hide the knot underneath the handle. Wrap: Begin wrapping the scarf tightly around the handle, working your way towards the other end. Overlap each wrap slightly to ensure full coverage and a smooth appearance. Secure: When you reach the other end, secure the scarf by tying another small knot around the handle attachment, just like you did at the start. You can leave the ends hanging or tie them into a little bow. Method 3: The Classic Bow Tie For a touch of charm, simply tying a bow is effortless: Position: Drape the scarf over the handle, letting both ends hang down evenly. Tie: Tie a simple knot, then form a bow. You can tie it in the middle of the handle for a central accent, or near one of the handle attachments. This works beautifully with smaller, square scarves. Experimenting is key! I often switch up my scarf styles depending on my outfit or the occasion. A brightly colored scarf can make a neutral bag pop, while a subtle pattern can add elegance. Don't be afraid to try different knots, wraps, and braids to find what you love most. It’s such an easy and fun way to personalize your accessories!
