Beef ramen, soft boiled eggs, green peppers and onions
❤️
I absolutely adore a comforting bowl of beef ramen, especially when it's topped with a perfectly jammy soft-boiled egg, and some vibrant green peppers and onions. It's truly my ultimate go-to meal when I need something quick, delicious, and incredibly satisfying. While the basic components seem simple, mastering each one can elevate your homemade ramen experience from good to absolutely divine! Let's talk about the star of the show for many ramen lovers: the soft-boiled egg. Getting that creamy, runny yolk with set whites is an art form, but totally achievable at home. Here’s my foolproof method: bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Carefully lower your eggs (straight from the fridge is fine!) into the boiling water using a slotted spoon. For that perfect jammy yolk, I usually boil them for exactly 6 minutes and 30 seconds. As soon as the timer goes off, immediately transfer them to an ice bath for at least 5 minutes. This stops the cooking process and makes them much easier to peel. Once cooled, peel gently under cold running water – you'll be amazed at how easily the shell comes off! Slice them in half just before serving to reveal that gorgeous golden center. Next up, the beef. For a quick beef ramen, I usually opt for thinly sliced sirloin or ribeye. You want cuts that cook quickly and remain tender. A little trick I learned is to marinate the beef slices for just 10-15 minutes in a mix of soy sauce, a touch of sesame oil, and a pinch of sugar. This not only adds flavor but also helps tenderize the meat. When it's time to cook, quickly sear the beef in a hot pan for just a minute or two until it's perfectly browned but still tender. You don't want to overcook it, as it will get tough. For the broth, while a homemade broth is amazing, on busy days, I don't hesitate to use a good quality store-bought beef or chicken broth as a base. To elevate it, I simmer it with a slice of ginger, a clove of garlic, and a dash of soy sauce and mirin for about 10-15 minutes. This infuses a lot of extra flavor without much effort. As for the noodles, always cook them according to package instructions for al dente perfection. Overcooked noodles can really drag down an otherwise fantastic ramen bowl. Finally, let's not forget those fresh green peppers and onions. They might seem like simple additions, but they add a wonderful crunch, freshness, and a slight sweetness that beautifully balances the rich broth and savory beef. I like to slice my green peppers thinly and chop the spring onions, adding them fresh at the very end. The slight warmth from the broth softens them just enough without losing their crispness. Assembling your beef ramen bowl is almost as satisfying as eating it! Start with the perfectly cooked noodles in a large bowl, then ladle over your hot, flavorful broth. Arrange the seared beef, those beautiful soft-boiled egg halves, and a generous sprinkle of fresh green peppers and onions on top. Sometimes I add a drizzle of chili oil for an extra kick! It’s such a simple pleasure to create a restaurant-quality beef ramen bowl right in your own kitchen. Give it a try – you won't be disappointed!
