Scissor Happy Clients
As a hairstylist this is not a first that I see naturals trim their own ends.
I don’t believe it’s a bad idea if you see where it needs to be trimmed. However, I do not everrrr suggest trimming ends in any type of style.
With her hair specifically because it was in two strand twist her hair was in a shrunken state and it was twisted. She was not able to see what truly needed to go.
I personally will still suggest going to see a licensed professional. We know exactly what type of cut your hair truly needs when being examined properly.
As a stylist & being natural myself we tend to try to keep onto the damage. That honestly doesn’t help your hair health at all. The health and length retention of your hair is dependent upon you and how you take care of it.
The minimum amount of trims you need are about 4 a year, every quarter. Depending on your stylist and the state of your hair you may need more than that.
Get with your professional and talk to them on what is best for your hair when it comes to a routine cut.

When it comes to hair care, particularly for naturals, keeping your ends healthy plays a crucial role in the overall well-being of your hair. Many people considering a DIY trim may not realize the impact of hair shrinkage, especially when dealing with styles like two-strand twists. This can obscure the actual state of their hair, leading to potential mistakes during the trimming process. Experts admonish against self-styling and suggest that regular trims—approximately four times a year—can significantly improve hair health and length retention. Consistent appointments with a licensed stylist ensure that hair is cut accurately according to its specific needs. These professionals have the training and experience necessary to assess each client’s hair and recommend the ideal cutting routine based on its unique condition. Moreover, clients should engage in open dialogues with their hair professionals, discussing their routine haircut expectations and goals. This collaboration can enhance hair health and prevent damage from improper home cutting. Remember, prioritizing your hair’s health is not just about maintaining length but also about preserving its natural beauty and vitality. Embrace a proactive approach by committing to regular visits with your hairstylist—your hair will thank you!
