🎃👻 Spooky Books for The Season 👻🎃

Happy Spooky Season to all who celebrate. I want to give my list of what I'm reading for spooky season but if you need recommendations I'll post some soon.

I started with 2 honorable mentions of books that I have read that had spooky vibes. I loved the different vibes of the books.

I wanted books that all have spooky/ scary elements that bring out the reason for the season.

10.) Mate by Ali Hazelwood releases October 7th so I will either be waiting to get it through Libby or biting the bullet to get it on kindle, depends on how long the wait ends up being.

9.) Behind Closed Doors By B.A Paris has been on my tbr since Stephanie Soo covered it. So I already know what happens but I still want to read it myself.

8.) Fear Street by R.L. Stine my library finally caved and got a copy of The New Girl so I'm excited.

7.) The First Witch of Boston by Andrea Catalona is a book I got on Kindle Unlimited because it had an audiobook attached. But so far I would really recommend it to anyone who loves a good witch in the woods story. The fact it uses diary entries from a real person accused of witchcraft is amazing.

6.) Saint Catherine by Anna Meyer is a graphic novel where a girl skips mass and gets possessed. It looks so interesting and I'm excited to read a graphic novel.

5.) Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare is going to scare me and I'm excited. I live on a farm and while we don't do corn I don't see myself being able to look at the hay fields.

4.) A Rogue Thorn by Lily Meade is another book I'm excited about. I loved Scooby Doo so I'm hopeful it'll be a good read.

3.) Dracula by Bram Stoker, I'm planning a whole post about the vampire genre so I wanted to read Dracula to have a baseline.

2.) Love at First Fright by Nadia El-Fassi is a romance book I'm looking forward to. A horror author/ medium is getting ready to have her book turned into a movie. Unfortunately her leading man is all wrong for the role. He's doing his best while just wanting to be home with his dog. It releases on September 16 and I'm excited.

1.) My Number one book I'm excited to read for Spooky Season is actually a nonfiction book by Eleanor Johnson called Scream With Me. I've been researching horror movies through the ages and their tropes, particularly of the final girl so a book about horror and feminism will hopefully be a great resource for me.

Anyway what are you guys checking out for Spooky Season? Any more must reads for me.

... Read moreSpooky season calls for an eclectic mix of chilling tales and atmospheric reads that set the perfect mood for fall. Beyond the titles listed, readers interested in deepening their spooky reading experience might consider exploring the cultural and historical backgrounds that enrich these stories. For instance, "The First Witch of Boston" by Andrea Catalano intriguingly draws on real diary entries from a woman accused of witchcraft, offering a rare glimpse into early American witch trials that shaped much of horror folklore. Graphic novels like "Saint Catherine" by Anna Meyer invite readers into a visually compelling narrative where religious themes intertwine with possession, adding layers to the traditional horror genre. Graphic storytelling can be a refreshing change for those looking to experience horror through both art and text, enhancing the immersive quality of spooky tales. For fans of nostalgic horror, R.L. Stine's "Fear Street" series brings back the classic teenage slasher vibes that defined much of the '80s and '90s horror culture. These books blend suspense, mystery, and teenage drama, appealing to both new readers and those reminiscing about earlier horror forms. Romance meets horror in "Love at First Fright" by Nadia El-Fassi, a unique blend where paranormal elements meet heartfelt relationships, broadening the appeal of spooky season reads to those who enjoy multifaceted storytelling. Its upcoming movie adaptation speaks to the growing popularity of horror-romance hybrids. Non-fiction like Eleanor Johnson's "Scream With Me" provides a scholarly yet accessible look at how feminism influenced horror films from 1968 to 1980, analyzing tropes such as the 'final girl' and their significance in the genre’s evolution. This book is a valuable resource for readers interested in the intersection between social movements and genre filmmaking. Additionally, seasonal readers might consider diving into themed anthologies or collections of short stories, which can offer bite-sized thrills and variety. Exploring authors who specialize in gothic and supernatural tales will also enrich your spooky season library. Remember, the spirit of spooky season is about immersing yourself in stories that evoke fear, suspense, and the supernatural while also celebrating the diverse ways authors reimagine these elements. Whether it’s a historical witch trial, a haunted graphic novel, or a modern horror romance, each book on your list adds to the atmosphere of autumn nights filled with thrilling reads.
