My 5-9 after my 9-5

My boyfriend is currently moving his best friend across state lines which means after work I have absolutely no one to hang out with and I feel like I am going crazy.

I'm reading a bunch while he is gone. I finished book number 6 in 4 days.

Yeah lots of reading. No rivals while he is gone because I would feel sad not having him play with.

Read moreWhen my social circle shrinks unexpectedly, like when my boyfriend helps move his best friend out of state, I find that structuring my evenings is key to maintaining my sanity and happiness. Over recent weeks, I’ve really leaned into reading—a total of six books in just four days—which has become both a refuge and a source of inspiration. Keeping a few physical books close, like "The Next Chapter" and "Heartless" by bestselling author Elsie Silver, offers an immersive escape that digital screens can’t match. In the late evenings, when my eyes get tired but sleep isn’t ready to come, I switch to audio formats such as podcasts and audiobooks. Shows like "The Jacksonville Ray" and YouTube podcasts recommended for winding down have helped me fill the quiet hours without feeling isolated. I also discover comfort in the little online communities like #readersoftiktok and #booktok, where fellow book lovers and podcast fans share their favorite recommendations—giving me a sense of connection even when alone. For anyone experiencing similar shifts in their after-work life, I recommend creating a small evening ritual. This might include picking a compelling book to read, setting aside a favorite playlist or podcast lineup, and even having a comforting drink nearby—like ice water—to keep you refreshed without overstimulation. Using these gentle routines can transform ‘empty’ evenings into an enjoyable time of self-care and growth. Most importantly, I remind myself that solitude doesn't have to mean loneliness. Embracing this time for personal interests and mental rest recharges me for the next day’s challenges. Whether you’re navigating sudden changes or simply want to enrich your 5-9 hours, cultivating these habits might spark new passions and help you thrive on your own terms.
