the beginning of an adventure~ 🍍
Day 0.
Empty walls. Bare floors. Finally got our keys! 🏠
We've been walking around the house like excited kids, trying to visualise where everything goes. Where the morning light comes in. Where we'll plop down on the sofa after work and unwind. Where I'll sip my kopi and pretend I have my life together.
Planning our kitchen and dining where we satisfy our 2am maggi supper cravings. Also thinking of where to put my rice cooker. Priorities. 🍜🍚
Feels surreal that this is ours to build. From scratch. From zero.
I'm documenting everything — the good, the messy, sharing the lessons learnt and tips we picked up along the way.
Question for you: What's the one thing you must have in your dream home? For me it's a proper dining area for hotpot gatherings with family and friends! Tell me yours below 👇
Day 0. Let's go.

Beginning a home renovation is truly an exciting adventure, especially when you hold the keys to an empty house that will soon become your dream living space. The initial days often spark a unique blend of emotions – excitement, creativity, and a little bit of overwhelm. I've gone through this journey myself and can relate deeply to the experience of walking through empty rooms, imagining where sunlight will warm the spaces and where your favorite furniture will finally sit. One essential part of this process is planning your kitchen and dining areas because they inevitably become the home's heart. In my own renovation, prioritizing spaces for casual midnight snacks and hearty family dinners made a big difference in the layout choices. For example, allocating an easy-to-access spot for rice cookers or instant noodle cravings ensures convenience while cooking. Documenting your renovation journey, like the author does, not only preserves precious memories but also helps to track challenges and solutions. I recommend keeping a mix of photos, notes, and reflections to look back on the transformation and share insights with others who might be embarking on a similar path. Additionally, involving friends or family in brainstorming sessions about must-have features—like a proper dining area for hotpot gatherings—can make your home feel even more inviting and personalized. From experience, creating communal spaces encourages meaningful connections and daily comfort. Lastly, remember that building a home from scratch is not just about the physical space but also about crafting an environment that nurtures well-being and happiness. Allow yourself flexibility, embrace the messy parts, and celebrate every small progress. The journey shapes not only your house but also the lifestyle you envision within it.
