HOW TO REFRAME INSECURE THOUGHTS TO CONFIDENCE

we all know the difference between being insecure and being confident in yourself, but how do you actually fix this??

it's important to note that insecurities stem from somewhere. i want you to DIG DEEPER - find out WHY you're feeling insecure. oftentimes, it's not actually about lack of ability or skill, but something else in your life that's stressful.

for example, i'm working on a group project right now that involves coding, but i've felt insecure about contributing. it's not because i don't know how to code - it's because i've felt really sick recently, causing me to miss class and feel like a bad student. THAT'S why i'm insecure.

in order to reframe my thoughts, i acknowledged my sickness, have taken time for myself to heal, and am working hard from home to catch up on the material i missed. now, i feel like i can adequately contribute to the group!

... Read moreHey everyone! We've all been there, right? That nagging feeling that you're not quite good enough, or maybe you're just silently comparing yourself to everyone else's highlight reels. It’s a tough space to be in, and sometimes it's hard to even pinpoint what exactly makes us feel this way. That's why understanding the signs of insecurity is so crucial – it’s the first step to truly changing things. When I started my own journey of building confidence, I realized that insecurity doesn't always show up as obvious self-doubt. Sometimes, it's more subtle, like constantly second-guessing every decision I make, even small ones. Other times, it's that voice in my head that nitpicks everything I do, turning small mistakes into huge failures. These are classic 'signs of insecurity' that I’ve learned to recognize. For instance, do you ever find yourself needing constant reassurance from friends or family, even when you know you've done a good job? That's a sign of 'doubting your worth'. Or perhaps you're a perfectionist, pushing yourself relentlessly and feeling crushed by anything less than flawless? That's often 'self-criticism' at play. I used to be terrible at 'over-analyzing' every social interaction, replaying conversations in my head for hours, convinced I'd said something wrong. And 'avoiding challenges or social situations' because of a fear of judgment or failure? Been there, done that! It’s like a protective mechanism, but it ultimately holds us back. Recognizing these patterns was a huge breakthrough for me. It wasn't about being inherently incapable; it was about the stories I was telling myself. The original post talks about digging deeper, and that really resonates. My insecurity about a group project wasn't about my coding skills, but about feeling unwell and falling behind. Once I identified that underlying stressor, I could address it directly. So, how do we move from spotting these signs to actually feeling more confident? It starts with mindful 'reframing your thoughts'. Instead of thinking "I'm not good enough," I now try to tell myself, "I'm learning and growing, and I earned my place." If I catch myself saying, "I'm behind everyone else," I remind myself that "everyone has their own pace, and mine is valid." It's not about ignoring reality, but about challenging those automatic negative thoughts. To truly 'be confident,' I’ve found a few things really help. First, 'challenge negative thoughts' directly. Ask yourself: Is this thought 100% true? What's the evidence for and against it? Often, our inner critic is just spouting opinions, not facts. Second, 'set achievable goals'. Don't aim for overnight transformation. Small, consistent steps build momentum. And when you hit those small targets? 'Celebrate wins'! Acknowledge your progress, no matter how minor. This reinforces positive behavior. Lastly, I regularly 'list my strengths' and identify areas I want to 'improve weaknesses' without judgment. It helps me focus on growth rather than perceived failures. Building confidence is a journey, not a destination. But by learning to identify those sneaky signs of insecurity and actively working to reframe our thoughts, we can absolutely shift our mindset and step into a more empowered version of ourselves.
