My wants in my new build
Over the past 6 months I have made a list of the things I want in my new build that will be starting so soon! I don’t think it’s too much…do you?! #littlethings #ThingsToDo #povs #newbuild #newbuildmusthaves
Building a new home is truly a journey of a lifetime, and after months of dreaming, planning, and pinning inspiration, I'm incredibly excited to dive deeper into the specific features that are non-negotiable for my upcoming new build. My initial list was just a glimpse, but these are the details that will truly make our house feel like a dream home, tailored perfectly to our lifestyle. First off, let's talk about smart living and seamless integration. In today's world, technology should enhance, not clutter. That's why having all wires for TVs and other electronics completely hidden is paramount. We're pre-wiring for cables where TVs will go and installing a structured media closet for all wires, internet, and routers. This means no unsightly cords! Automated lighting under countertops and throughout the house, coupled with custom smart curtains, will create the perfect ambiance at the touch of a button (or voice command!). And for security, an Ethernet cable at all doors for cameras ensures a reliable connection. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and I’m making sure it’s both beautiful and highly functional. My absolute must-have is two dishwashers, installed at waist level – no more bending down! This will be a game-changer for entertaining and everyday life. A pot filler above the stove is a classic convenience, but I’m taking it a step further with a second pot filler above the dog water bowl at the end of the island. Our furry family members deserve luxury too! Spice cabinets flanking the stove will keep everything organized and within easy reach, while an Elkay water dispenser with a nugget ice maker below will be a dream for refreshing drinks. We’re also planning for a Shaws of Darwin double sink with a Brizo lux gold faucet – the perfect blend of style and practicality. Comfort and convenience extend to every corner. Heated toilet seats might sound like a splurge, but trust me, they’re a small luxury that makes a big difference, especially during colder months. We're also debating between epoxy heated floors or traditional hardwood – the warmth of heated floors is incredibly appealing! Speakers throughout the house and outside will keep the music flowing, and heaters on the back patio ceiling mean we can enjoy our outdoor space year-round. These little touches really elevate daily living. And speaking of our beloved pets, their comfort is a priority! Beyond the dog bowl pot filler, a dedicated dog wash station will save our backs and keep muddy paws from tracking through the house. An automatic doggy door will give them freedom while keeping our home secure. It’s all about creating a harmonious environment for everyone. Finally, it’s all about clever design and thoughtful details that make life easier. Pocket doors are fantastic for maximizing space, especially in smaller rooms or hallways. Hidden outlets in floors and the kitchen island maintain a clean aesthetic, complemented by crystallo wrapped outlets that blend seamlessly. For the bathroom, an outlet dedicated to a bidet toilet is a must-have for hygiene. Practical considerations like a recessed dryer vent, ample storage in the office, and an underground gutter drainage system ensure both efficiency and curb appeal. And for the future, pre-installing an electric car outlet is a smart move that accounts for evolving needs. This list represents not just features, but a vision for a home that truly works for us, embodying both practicality and personal indulgences. I can’t wait to see these dreams come to life! What are your absolute must-haves for a new build?
