Yorkie overheated

As a Yorkie owner, I’ve learned firsthand how quickly these tiny dogs can overheat, especially when they get excited or are very active during warm weather. Yorkies have a thick coat and a small body size, which means they can’t regulate their body temperature as well as larger breeds. From my experience, the most important thing is to always monitor your Yorkie’s activity and environment closely on hot days. I noticed that my Yorkie became overheated after chasing the lawn guy across the fence, which was a wake-up call. Since then, I make sure to limit outdoor playtime during peak heat hours and provide plenty of fresh water near the yard. I also keep shady spots accessible so my dog can cool down as needed. Watching for signs like excessive panting, drooling, or lethargy helps me intervene early. One useful tip I found was to use cooling mats and avoid walks when the pavement is too hot, as this can burn their paws and worsen heat stress. If you suspect your Yorkie is overheating, immediate action is critical: move your dog to a cooler area, offer water, and apply cool (not cold) damp towels to their body. Never use ice-cold water as it can cause shock. Sharing these precautions with fellow Yorkie owners is important because these small companions depend on us to safeguard their health. Though they are spirited and energetic, they need gentle care and protection from overheating.
