I recently went to a cute pottery supply store in Connecticut! I only got a few things but I wanted to share :)
Oh my goodness, you guys! My recent trip to a charming pottery supply store in Connecticut turned into an absolute treasure hunt, and I just had to share my finds with you all. It wasn't a huge haul, but sometimes the best things come in small packages, right? First up, let's talk about the Laguna Clay Company's Nebula Blue glaze. Seriously, the moment I saw this, I knew it had to come home with me! The label alone, with its cute starfish design, hinted at something special. I've been eyeing a really unique blue for some ocean-themed pieces, and this looks absolutely perfect. I'm imagining it on a textured bowl, maybe with some carved details to let the glaze pool and show off its potential variations. Laguna glazes are usually so reliable, and I've heard amazing things about their Nebula series for achieving stunning, multi-tonal effects that mimic cosmic dust or deep sea mysteries. I'm planning to try it on both stoneware and porcelain to see how the color develops differently. I've got a new fan-shaped glaze brush that I think will be ideal for applying an even coat, or maybe even layering it for a watercolor effect. Next, I snagged the Mayco Stoneware SW-168 Coral Sands glaze. Can we just appreciate that name for a second? Coral Sands! It immediately conjures images of warm beaches and serene sunsets. I'm always on the lookout for earthy, organic tones, and this shimmery, sandy-pink hue is just divine. I envision using this on some of my more rustic, hand-built pieces, perhaps a mug or a small vase, to really bring out its natural warmth. Mayco's Stoneware series is fantastic because it's so versatile and often produces beautiful, complex surfaces. I'm hoping for a lovely semi-transparent finish that breaks over textures, giving it that perfect 'found on the beach' feel. I'm thinking about pairing it with a simple white or even a dark brown clay body to see how the contrast makes the 'sands' pop. It's going to be so much fun experimenting with different application thicknesses. Beyond the glazes, I also picked up a really handy wooden pottery tool. It has a central hole, which makes me think it'll be perfect for trimming precise feet on my bowls or for creating interesting decorative patterns. A good tool can make all the difference, don't you agree? And of course, you can never have too many glaze brushes! That fan-shaped one is going to be a game-changer for getting smooth, even coats. This haul really reignited my excitement for pottery. Sometimes, just getting a couple of new supplies can spark so many fresh ideas.
