Feeling behind...my biggest insecurity in my 30s
I always thought by the time I hit my 30s, I’d feel more confident, grounded, and secure in who I am. And in many ways, I do. But what caught me off guard was the insecurity I never saw coming: feeling behind
Not in the “I should be married or have kids” kind of way but in this quiet comparison game I didn’t realize I was still playing. Careers, homes, bodies, relationships, even skincare routines... everything started to feel like a measurement of "where I should be by now."
No one warned me that success would start to look so different for everyone and that not knowing exactly what you're doing at 32 could feel so vulnerable.
I’ve had to remind myself constantly that timelines are made up. And that I don’t need to stress about where I should be now: how much I should be making, what my next home purchase should look like, etc.
The truth is, confidence in your 30s often looks like unlearning everything you thought you'd have figured out by now and being okay with figuring it out as you go.
For my 30’s girlies, what’s an insecurity you didn’t expect to face in your 30s? Let’s talk about it because chances are, you’re not the only one feeling it.

Feeling behind in your 30s is a surprisingly common insecurity that goes beyond traditional life markers like marriage or buying a home. Many people experience a subtle, yet persistent, comparison game that can affect careers, relationships, personal goals, and even daily routines like skincare. This feeling often stems from internalizing societal timelines that suggest where we should be by a certain age. One important realization is that success looks different for everyone. What feels like being "behind" could simply be a unique path unfolding at its own pace. Embracing that timelines are made up helps reduce the stress of comparison and allows more room for authentic personal growth. In this decade, confidence may come from unlearning old beliefs about what should be accomplished and instead focusing on figuring things out as you go. Vulnerability plays a big role; not knowing exactly where you’re headed can open doors for new opportunities and self-discovery. Moreover, redefining what success means to you personally is crucial. For some, it might involve prioritizing mental health and well-being over external achievements. Others might choose to focus on cultivating deeper relationships or exploring creative passions without pressure. Connecting with others who share similar feelings can also alleviate the sense of isolation. Open discussions and honest sharing about insecurities in your 30s create supportive communities that affirm you are not alone. Ultimately, feeling behind offers a chance to challenge societal expectations and cultivate a more compassionate and flexible approach to your own journey. Self-worth is not measured by meeting preset milestones but by embracing growth, resilience, and authenticity every step of the way.

I am the same way I am always comparing my life or situations to others and feeling like I’m behind or don’t have my life together
