Am I too sensitive… or just self-aware? 🤔

For the longest time, I thought being “too sensitive” was something I needed to fix. Every time I expressed how I felt or brought up something that hurt me, I was made to feel dramatic or “too much.” So I started to hold back, to stay quiet, to avoid being labeled as emotional. That literally gave me so much anxiety and it led me to holding onto more grudges. I used to think being sensitive was a weakness, when in reality, it’s one of my biggest strengths.

Being sensitive means I can understand and communicate my emotions instead of burying them. It means I care deeply, notice the small things, and have empathy for others. It means I’ll bring up what’s bothering me instead of pretending everything’s fine… because healing starts with honesty, not suppression.

Would you rather be “too sensitive,” or someone who bottles everything up until it explodes?

... Read moreAfter realizing that my 'sensitivity' was actually a superpower, not a flaw, I embarked on a deeper journey of understanding what it truly means for a woman to 'let go' and build emotional strength. It's not just about accepting who you are; it's about actively transforming how you interact with your intense feelings and the world around you. For years, that feeling of 'being too much' led to so much anxiety. I'd bottle things up until I felt like I was going to explode, just to avoid being labeled. But letting go isn't about becoming less emotional; it's about becoming a master of your emotions. 1. The Art of Emotional Release: Beyond Bottling Up When you're sensitive, you feel things deeply. The initial article touched on how bottling up emotions leads to grudges and anxiety. To truly let go, we need healthy outlets. For me, journaling became a lifeline. Instead of replaying hurtful conversations or internalizing criticism, I started writing it all down. It wasn't about dwelling; it was about acknowledging, processing, and then releasing those feelings onto the page. This practice helped me see patterns, understand my triggers, and prevent that overwhelming 'bottled-up' feeling that used to cause so much stress. 2. Building Your Emotional Boundaries: A Sensitive Strength One of the biggest lessons I learned on my journey to emotional strength was the importance of boundaries. As a sensitive person, it’s easy to absorb others' emotions and energy. This can quickly drain you and make 'letting go' feel impossible because you're constantly taking on new burdens. Setting boundaries isn't about being cold; it's about protecting your inner peace. It might look like saying 'no' to commitments that overwhelm you, or clearly communicating your needs in relationships. This empowers you to manage your emotional landscape rather than being swept away by it. It’s what transforms sensitivity into a reliable inner compass, rather than a vulnerability. 3. From Overthinking to Deep Insight: Reframing Your Sensitivity Many sensitive women are often told they 'overthink' things. But what if that 'overthinking' is actually deep processing and intuition? Learning to trust my gut feelings, which comes naturally with high sensitivity, has been a game-changer. Instead of dismissing my early warnings or subtle observations, I started to pay attention. This shift helped me make more authentic choices and avoid situations that previously led to emotional distress. This isn't just about feeling; it's about deeply understanding, which is a powerful form of emotional strength. It's about leveraging your natural ability to notice the small things, as mentioned in the original post, and turning it into wisdom. 4. The Power of Self-Compassion in Letting Go Finally, true emotional strength comes from self-compassion. There will be days when you feel overwhelmed, or when old insecurities about being 'too sensitive' resurface. In those moments, instead of self-criticism, offer yourself kindness. Remember, your sensitivity allows you to connect deeply, feel joy intensely, and offer profound empathy to others. It is not a flaw to be fixed, but a unique lens through which you experience the world. Letting go means letting go of the self-judgment, embracing all parts of yourself, and understanding that your emotional depth is a profound source of power.
