Anybody else’s dog be like this??

It’s so funny when our dogs do things that remind us of cats, isn't it? Like when they start kneading their bed or your lap, just like a feline making 'biscuits.' My own dog does this, and at first, I was so confused but also totally charmed! I mean, who knew dogs had this in their repertoire? I started looking into it because I was curious if it was normal, especially since most people associate kneading with cats. It turns out, this behavior, often called 'making biscuits' or 'kneading,' is actually quite common in dogs, even if it looks distinctly cat-like. So, if your Doberman or any other breed is doing it, rest assured, it's usually nothing to worry about and often a sign of contentment. One of the main reasons dogs knead is actually an instinct that goes all the way back to puppyhood. When puppies nurse, they knead their mother's belly to stimulate milk flow. It's a comforting action associated with warmth, safety, and nourishment. So, when your adult dog kneads, they're often reliving that feeling of ultimate comfort and security. It's their way of saying, "I feel safe and happy right now!" It's like a self-soothing mechanism, similar to how human babies might suck their thumb. Another theory is that dogs might knead to mark their territory. Dogs have scent glands in their paws, and by pressing them into a blanket or soft surface, they might be leaving their unique scent behind. It's a subtle way of saying, "This is mine!" without being aggressive. It’s not as obvious as urine marking, but it’s a form of scent communication nonetheless. Some dogs also knead before lying down, almost like they're fluffing up their bed to make it more comfortable, a remnant of wild dogs preparing a sleeping spot. Sometimes, kneading can also be a way for your dog to seek attention. If you react positively every time they do it (and honestly, who can resist an adorable kneading pup?), they learn that this behavior gets your notice. So, if you find your dog doing it more often when you’re around, they might just be trying to get some extra cuddles or playtime. My dog definitely knows how to get my attention with his cute little quirks! While dog kneading is almost always benign, very rarely, obsessive kneading could be a sign of anxiety or discomfort. If your dog is kneading excessively, to the point of self-harm, or showing other signs of stress, it might be worth a chat with your vet. But for most dogs, it's just a sweet, inherited behavior that reminds them of their earliest, most comforting memories. So next time your dog starts making biscuits, just enjoy the moment and know they're probably feeling incredibly happy and safe with you.
