Trans 🏳️‍⚧️ Tape Tutorial Part 1

... Read moreIf you're curious about trans tape, whether for gender affirmation or just to achieve a certain aesthetic without a bra, you've come to the right place! I've been using it for a while now, and I've picked up some useful tips that I wish I knew when I first started my trans tape tutorial journey. First things first, picking the right trans tape is crucial. I always look for a brand that offers a good range of sizes – a 'small' might work for one person, but 'medium' or even 'large' could be better depending on your body's specific needs. And definitely, try to find one that matches your 'skin tone' as closely as possible for a seamless look, especially if you're wearing lighter fabrics. I've found that some brands are more breathable than others, which makes a huge difference in comfort throughout the day, especially if you're active. It’s important to find a tape that feels good on your skin while giving you the desired 'shoulder action' or flatness. Before you even unroll your tape, make sure your skin is clean and completely dry. No lotions, oils, or powders directly beforehand! And for the love of comfort and skin health, please use 'nipple covers'. They're non-negotiable for me. Some tapes come with them, or you can buy medical-grade silicone ones separately. Using them makes removal so much easier and prevents irritation or pain, which is something you definitely want to avoid. Now for the actual 'application'. This is where those 'measuring lines' on the back of some tapes come in super handy. I usually cut strips that are long enough to go from my sternum to just under my armpit, or even a bit further for more support, depending on the effect I want. The key is to apply the tape without stretching it too much directly on your skin. Instead, gently pull your chest tissue towards your armpit, creating the desired flat or 'no bra aesthetic' look, then apply the tape over it, smoothing it out as you go. I usually start from the side and work my way in, overlapping slightly if needed. It takes practice to get it right, but don't get discouraged! It gets easier every time. One of the most important parts is 'adhesive removal'. Never, ever rip it off dry! I've learned this the hard way, and it's not fun. The tape usually comes with its own removal oil, which is great. But if you're in a pinch, 'coconut oil' works wonders. Just saturate the tape thoroughly, let it sit for a few minutes to loosen the adhesive, and then gently peel it off in the direction of your hair growth. Take your time, and if it still feels sticky, apply more oil. After removal, I always moisturize my skin, especially if it feels a bit tender. While trans tape can be super comfortable, it's generally not recommended to wear it for more than 5-7 days. I usually aim for 2-3 days max, giving my skin a break in between applications. Always check for any irritation or redness, and if you have sensitive skin, maybe do a patch test first. Taking care of your skin underneath is just as important as the application itself!

So…. I do not identify as trans or nonbinary. I am a cisgender female. I have a large chest that I’m not comfortable with and I hate how it looks. I would be much more comfortable taping it like you peeps do. Is taping your chest just for trans and nonbinary peeps or would it be ok if I did it too? I don’t intend to be offensive, I just want to be comfortable.
