Your ex is with someone new but it’s still contacting you. #avoidant #avoidantattachment #breakup #breakupadvice #breakuprecovery
We've all been there, right? You're trying to heal, move forward, and then boom—your ex, who is now blissfully (or so it seems) with someone new, sends you a text. Or likes an old photo. Or, even worse, calls you out of the blue. It’s a total head-scratcher and can make you feel a whirlwind of emotions: confusion, a flicker of hope, irritation, and sometimes, even a strange sense of validation. But what does it really mean when your ex contacts you while they’re supposedly happy in a new relationship? From my own experience, and from what I've seen countless times, it rarely means they've suddenly realized you're 'the one' and are ready to leave their new partner for you. More often than not, as hard as it is to hear, you've become their safety net. They're keeping you on the back burner, just in case their current relationship doesn't work out. They don't want you completely moving on because having you as an option provides a strange sense of comfort and control for them. It’s like they're on the fence, not really knowing what they want, and ensuring you’re still around in some capacity gives them leverage. They’re basically testing the waters, and you're the fallback plan. This kind of contact can also be a subtle power play, sometimes even stemming from their own insecurities or a desire to stir jealousy. They might be trying to make you jealous, showing they've moved on but still have you in their orbit. Or, perhaps, they're trying to make their new partner jealous, demonstrating they still have other admirers. In some cases, the new relationship might not be as perfect as it seems, and they're seeking validation or emotional support that they're not getting from their current partner. When your ex contacts you, it can be an emotional rollercoaster, pulling you back into old patterns and making it incredibly difficult to heal and find your own happiness. It’s crucial to understand that you shouldn't have to be someone's second choice, waiting indefinitely to see if they'll choose you. You deserve to be the first one, the only one. When an ex keeps you around as a safety net, they are effectively preventing you from truly moving on from this situation. It's a disservice to yourself and your emotional well-being. This behavior often leads to more hurt down the line, as if their new relationship does end up working, they'll simply let you go without a second thought, potentially leaving you feeling even more used and discarded than after the initial breakup. So, what can you do? My advice is to prioritize your peace and self-respect. Set firm boundaries. This might mean going no contact, blocking them on social media, and ignoring their messages. It's about protecting yourself from being strung along and preventing further emotional damage. Focus on your healing journey. Remind yourself that you are worthy of a relationship where you are valued entirely, without being a backup option. Don’t entertain the notion that this contact is an opportunity to work things out if they're clearly still exploring another relationship. You deserve someone who chooses you, unequivocally, from the start.
