Ceylon Eclipse Tea w/ Valerian

I’ve been playing with my own loose leaf tea blends and came across a rather unconventional pairing: Ceylon and Valerian!

This reminds me of the opposing yet complimentary forces of the sun and moon, and perfect for use in a solar eclipse ceremony or the days leading up to this natural phenomenon.

Energetic yet calming, smooth yet spicy with the addition of candied ginger and clove, I was surprised how smooth the finished tea turned out to taste.

Feel free to add fresh lemon or honey or sweetener of choice for an added depth of flavor.

Ceylon Tea (black tea from Sri Lanka) contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation and mental clarity. It can also slightly elevate dopamine levels, which can improve mood. Ceylon tea is traditionally associated with Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine that emphasizes the balance between mind, body, and spirit. In Ayurveda, tea is seen as a way to cleanse the body and promote inner peace.

Valerian is an herb that has been used for centuries to promote relaxation and sleep. It is thought to work by increasing levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter that calms the nervous system. Valerian is sometimes used by people who practice meditation or other spiritual disciplines to help them quiet their minds and achieve a deeper state of relaxation.

In the days leading up to the solar eclipse:

Set an intention. Before consuming Ceylon tea or valerian, take a moment to set an intention for your spiritual practice. What do you hope to achieve? This can help you focus your energy and get the most out of the experience.

Create a ritual. Creating a ritual around consuming Ceylon tea or valerian can make it a more spiritual experience. This could involve brewing the tea in a special pot, lighting candles, or playing calming music.

Be mindful. Pay attention to how Ceylon tea or valerian makes you feel. Are you more relaxed? More focused? More present in the moment? By being mindful of your experience, you can deepen its spiritual significance.

📒Disclaimer: It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before taking valerian, especially if you are taking any medications or have any underlying health conditions.

Ultimately, whether black tea helps you connect with the future, intuition, or luck is a personal experience. If it enhances your tea ritual and brings a sense of well-being, then that's what matters most.
